From Islam to Israel, kindling a fire on shabbat, and the "House of Yehovah".

In this classic episode of Hebrew Voices, From Islam to Israel, I talk with Shamir Barnett, a living example of those who say about the Jewish people “we have heard that God is with you”. Raised Muslim, Shamir had a spiritual encounter that brought her from Islam to Christianity to Hebrew Roots and then to Israel.  Listen as Shamir tells her incredible story about how she dropped out of school after the 7th grade, didn't have a Bible until she was 17, and is now studying for a PhD in Bible Studies at an Orthodox Jewish University near Tel Aviv. Renee wrote: “WOWWWW!!!!... Shamir hit a home-run and knocked it out of the park in her true and simple definition and description of who Yisrael is!”

In this week's Prophet Pearls, Vayakhel - Pekudei (1 Kings 7:40-8:21), we peer into the Ark of the Covenant, examine the term “House of Yehovah”, and consider what happened in the Book of Hebrews. Jim wrote: “Fantastic! I’ve always been drawn to the Tabernacle and the Temple for some reason.”

In this week's Original Torah Pearls, Vayakhel (Exodus 35:1-38:20), we look at what it means to "kindle a fire" on the Sabbath, polygamy in the Torah, and the true nature of Paleo-Hebrew. I am pleased to announce that a transcript of this episode has recently been uploaded to the webpage! If you find these transcriptions to be a valuable resource and would like to support our effort to continue transcribing the teachings on, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Makor Hebrew Foundation. Nicole wrote: “Nehemia, your comments on the polygamy thing made so much sense!"

The image below is of the beginning of this week's Torah portion from a beautifully illuminated manuscript at the Bodleian Library in Oxford dated to 1472. This is one of 1,700 Hebrew Bible manuscripts containing the full vowels of Yehovah! Learn more about the name of Yehovah here.
