Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service flies high over Paris

CAMS used the occasion of the conference on Our Common Future Under Climate Change in Paris to explain how it will implement the EU-funded Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service. The head of CAMS, Vincent-Henri Peuch, was a keynote speaker at a side event on Monitoring Atmospheric Composition in a Changing Climate on 9 July. The event focused on the ways in which CAMS can contribute to our understanding of climate change and support decision-making on anthropogenic emissions. Vincent-Henri also gave an interview, which can be viewed on the CAMS web site.

The European Commission is conducting two user surveys on the use of Sentinel data and Copernicus service information. Please take a moment to fill in the surveys to help the Copernicus programme to better serve your present and future needs:
Every year Canadian forests are affected by strong and extensive fires emitting large amounts of smoke into the atmosphere. This month the fire activity seems to be even stronger than usual and the smoke plumes have been covering large parts of Canada and the United States. CAMS routinely monitors emissions of smoke particles (biomass burning aerosol) and other atmospheric pollutants, such as carbon monoxide, using observations from the MODIS satellite instruments. The procurement of service elements for the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service is progressing well. The first batch of procurements has now been closed and is in the evaluation phase, but several others are currently open or will be released soon. These latter procurements focus on the development of the global services system and the provision of products in support of policy users. More information is available on the ECMWF Copernicus procurement pages.

Service Updates

ECMWF is planning to introduce a new release of the global data assimilation and forecasting system. The expected implementation date is 3 September 2015. This release has been fully tested by the Validation team. More information can be found on the CAMS User Support pages.
