Dava Huesca nominated as first Springboard-curated recipient of Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation AIR Founder's Residency!

We are honored to announce that Springboard Danse Montréal and Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation have partnered up to provide nominated Springboard artists with residency opportunities at Chez Bushwick in Brooklyn, NY. Springboard will be curating one artist per cycle for the 2021 season. 
This new partnership opens another channel to connect our Springboard artists to career-development opportunities. We are grateful to Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation for the invitation to join them in this collaborative initiative!

2021 AIR - Cycle 1 Founder's Residency
Springboard alumna 2018 & 2019

Dava Huesca, from New York City, graduated from SUNY Purchase conservatory of Dance with magna cum laude distinction in 2019. In 2015, she graduated second in the dance department from Fiorello LaGuardia Arts High School and was awarded Desire Keras Dancer from the Heart award. Shortly after her college graduation Dava joined VIM VIGOR Dance company. Dava’s performance experience also includes Stacey Pearl Dance project, Rena Butler, Hannah Gardner, Sidra Bell, Maxine Doyle, Manuel Vigoulle, and Martha Graham Dance Company, etc. Dava attended Springboard Danse Montréal for two consecutive years where she worked with MAZE dance company, Johannes Weiland, Vanessa Goodman, and VIM VIGOR dance company.

Dava is the curator for New York Times and Dance Spirit magazine cited Instagram @Issadancelook. Additionally, she is the co-founder of the interdisciplinary arts collective LLAB RATS. Through LLAB RATS, she has performed and set work for Battery Dance Festival, Ciclo Dos, Purchase Dance company, Arts on site, The Craft NYC and others. Dava has led LLAB RATS experience floorwork based classes at SUNY Purchase and Gibney dance, as well as, organized art-filled peaceful protests in New York City in solidarity with the Black Lives matter movement. Dava continues to educate, teaching modern, floor work, jazz funk, contemporary and gymnastics throughout the New York tri-state area. She hopes to spread her voice internationally through education and choreography.

About Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation 2021 AIR - Cycle 1

Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation is pleased to announce four newly awarded artists to their 2021 Artist-In-Residence program, Cycle 1, marking its 19th year of steadily programmed residencies in Bushwick, Brooklyn since Chez Bushwick's founding in 2002. The four newly-awarded artists for Cycle 1 are:


Brendan Drake • Dava Huesca
Hala Shah • Alexa West

Awarded artists will receive 75 hours of safely designated Solo Rehearsal Space at Chez Bushwick between January 11 - April 30, 2021, as well as a shared virtual performance opportunity

All Cycle 1 awarded artists were selected through nomination by dance and performance field leaders, in dialogue with Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation organization.

About the Chez Bushwick Artist-In-Residency Program

Newly structured within current safety guidelines, Chez Bushwick's Artist-in-Residence program will move forward in 2021 to provide up to three residency cycles, awarding up to four emerging and mid-career artists per cycle. Each Cycle 1 Artist will be offered a 15-week residency, dedicated to fostering the creation, development, and performance of new work. Residencies will include up to 75 hours of solo rehearsal space, virtual peer forums, constructive feedback, and a safe presentation of the new work developed during the residency.
