What a month!!! All the hard work and planning for the Shakespeare 400 concert and the Young Musician competition were richly rewarded at our flagship concert on the 17th July. Some further details on each are shown below but Andy and I would like to record again our special thanks to all the choir and the young musician competition finalists. The final of Coro Nuovo’s inaugural Young Musician of the Year Competition was held on Sunday 17th July. Four young musicians – all with a Sussex connection - competed for a £500 bursary to help with their musical studies. Hannah Corcoran was the competition winner, delighting the audience with her Fantaisie brillante sur Carmen by Francois Borne for saxophone.
Shown below are the participants - from left to right: Rebekah Smith (soprano), Gideon Brooks (trumpet), Oliver Brooks (tuba) and competition winner Hannah Corcoran (saxophone) with Coro Nuovo President Dame Josephine Barstow DBE, and Music Director Andrew Rees.
After being selected as Coro Nuovo’s Young Musician of the Year, Hanah said: “Thank you ever so much, I feel very honoured to have been awarded it, especially as Rebekah, Gideon and Ollie all performed fantastically! I really do appreciate the support hugely. I would love to be involved with the choir as much as and in any way possible, please just let me know what I can do!”
Hannah's success has also been reported in the Brighton Argus - to read the article click here.
