Speaking With One Clear Voice
by Jason Meyer, Cooksey Partner and Executive Vice President
One of the biggest transformations that has taken place in the marketing profession during the past two decades has been the transitioning of public relations and advertising agencies into one-stop shops that provide completely integrated marketing communications solutions for their clients. Though the trend was initiated by both types of firms looking to expand their offerings (in an effort to grow their individual businesses), the result has been a real win for their clients.

How has marketing changed?
Today’s marketing environment is multi-faceted and constantly evolving. Composed of traditional advertising and public relations, along with emerging digital and social media platforms, each has its place in a company’s marketing mix.

With so many methods available for businesses to communicate with their core customer audiences, it can be confusing (especially for small- and mid-sized B2B companies) to know how to get their program off the ground. Engaging an agency that understands how each message and platform should work together is the best way for a business to initiate that effort.

Why work with an integrated agency?
An important advantage that an integrated agency provides is the collective knowledge base it offers, matched with a coordinated effort that comes from a core team of professionals working in unison.

Rather than having two or three firms managing each marketing activity separately, an integrated agency will maximize efficiency by aligning messages to each platform simultaneously – allowing the marketing effort to speak with one clear voice.

Communications and public relations professionals tend to be counselors who excel in messaging and content, while creative teams are able to hone in on key attributes of a product or service and bring out the “wow” factor or value proposition of the brand.

Let the results speak for themselves.
Whether it be through press releases and earned media; advertising, paid media and digital applications (including website and social media content); or through sales collateral and direct mail, an integrated firm can help companies put a comprehensive communications and marketing program in place that delivers strong results and a bigger bottom line.

Having managed numerous marketing communications programs for Hillwood during the previous five years, Cooksey was tapped to manage the brand launch of the company’s newest division in 2015, Hillwood Urban. The division’s focus was a departure for the company, featuring an emphasis on large corporate office developments and mixed-use projects on core urban land sites, as well as key suburban land locations in growing communities.

For the effort, Cooksey developed a campaign that integrated public relations, brand development and community relations, all timed to correspond with key dates within the division’s launch and several ensuing, major announcements.

The initial launch generated a significant buzz, with the PR effort generating a front-page business story in The Dallas Morning News; feature story in the Dallas Business Journal; overview piece in D CEO’s Real Estate Daily; and significant industry coverage in various real estate publications, including BISNOW, GlobeSt.com and several others.

The creative program included the development of a logo for the division; a branded brochure and pocket folder; and full stationery suite, each featuring elements integrated within the whole collateral system.

35W Coalition Celebrates 10th Anniversary
In February, the 35W Coalition celebrated its regional transportation accomplishments during a special 10th anniversary Annual Meeting. The event was attended by several regional dignitaries who have contributed to the success of the Coalition, including Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, Texas Transportation Commissioner Victor Vandergriff and North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Transportation Director Michael Morris.

The 35W Coalition is a group of concerned citizens, business and land owners, transportation executives and elected officials, whose mission is to "Keep 35W Moving North.” The private, nonprofit membership seeks to educate the public about the transportation crisis facing the region, find solutions to transportation and traffic problems and encourage quality development along I-35W in north Fort Worth, Tarrant County and southern Denton County.

Cooksey is honored to have served as the communications partner for the 35W Coalition since its inception, and we look forward to helping it make an impact in North Texas for many more decades to come.
