Tip of the month:

When things are going well, it's a good idea to think about just how to make sure they stay that way. Don't wait until the poop hits the proverbial fan.

You know that some things will change with time, and you know that relationships between key people will also change, as people age and their responsibilities get larger, both inside your the business and outside.

In a Family Business, it's never too early to start.  This is exactly the time to work on figuring out, via lots of discussions, how to structure things for the next stage.

FEX Halifax
Two organizations to which I belonged for the past few years, CAFÈ (Canadian Association of Family Enterprises) and IFEA (Institute of Family Enterprise Advisors) have joined forces in the past year, and their inaugural Symposium is coming up in just a few weeks.

I will be there and I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.  The speaker line-up in second to none.  If you are there and we have not yet met in person, please make a point to say hello.

This section of the monthly newsletter is often used to bring you pieces from some of the big players in the industry,  like the huge accounting firms or Universities.  But it isn't just big budget organizations that put out great stuff.
