"Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum!"
Habemus Missam in Forma Extraordinaria!
We are pleased to announce that, upon the decision of Bishop Bartchak, there will once again be an "Extraordinary Form" Latin Mass in Centre County, PA! The Mass will now be celebrated at Saint John the Evangelist Church in Bellefonte, instead of Our Lady of Victory Church in State College. We expect that our celebrant again will be Fr. Cyprian Constantine, O.S.B., of St. Vincent Archabbey. Initially, the Mass schedule is expected to remain the same as before, namely, the First Saturday evening of the month.
The exact time and date of the first Mass will be decided and announced soon.
Bishop Bartchak came personally to Saint John's to meet with our committee and announce this plan, along with Fr. Alan Thomas, the Vicar General. The Bishop has been working toward this goal through prayerful consultation with the various parties involved, and we owe him a debt of gratitude for his pastoral attention, in the midst of many challenges for our local church.
We are also extremely grateful to Fr. George Jakopac, pastor of St. John's, who is extending a generous welcome to us. Many parishioners at St. John's are also excited to host the Traditional Latin Mass, and we hope that our regulars from State College will not find the slightly longer trip to be burdensome. Fr. George is in the process of repainting the interior of the church, which is possibly the oldest and most beautiful Catholic church building in the area.
Finally, we are grateful to all of you for your prayers and support! Please stay tuned for more news about this fresh start to our apostolate and our Latin Mass community.
