The 2nd International Corporate Governance Conference
The Centre for Corporate Governance & Financial Policy at the School of Business organised its 2nd International Corporate Governance Conference on 25-26 June 2015. The themes of this interdisciplinary conference were sustainability, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, and corruption. The aim was to bring on campus renowned colleagues with a strong track record of publications in top-tier journals in the fields of Accounting, Finance, Economics, Management and Marketing, so that they can interact with HKBU colleagues.
 
Overseas participants were Jordan Siegel (Harvard Business School), Pedro Matos (University of Virginia), Hun-Tong Tan (Nanyang Technological University), and Ruth Aguilera (Northeastern University), who were joined by Dragon Tang and Sara Kim from the University of Hong Kong, as well as by Weiqiang Tang and Aris Stouraitis from HKBU, in presenting their latest research findings.

Business Bridge Issue No. 32  is available online. The feature story explores the latest development of Qianhai and the opportunities it offers to entrepreneurs and professionals.



 
Alumni awarded $300,000 for new venture development
Alumni Joson Shiu and Kyle Ngai (ISEM concentration, BBA '14) together with four team members won the $300,000 FOR NEW VENTURE Business Plan Competition organised by the Knowledge Transfer Office of HKBU.
Building a healthy organisation
Ms. Justine Chim, Principal Consultant of Chim’s Ergonomics and Safety Ltd., shared her expertise on the prevention of musculoskeletal injuries in offices in a seminar titled “Strategies on Building Healthy Organisation”. The seminar was organised by Department of Management on 30 May 2015.  
Welcome party for AECON students
The Department of Economics hosted a welcoming party for BBA students interested in pursuing Applied Economics as their concentration on 18 May 2015. Senior students shared experiences with the juniors on course selection, exchange, internship and honours project. 
Accounting students debate their way to award at tax competition
A team of four BBA Accounting Year 3 students was awarded 2nd runner up in the Tax Debate Competition organised by the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong on 16-17 Jun 2015.
 
High table dinner with business executives
BCom in Marketing programme and the Hong Kong Management Association co-organised the High Table Dinner with Business Executives 2015 on 28 Apr, bringing together 70 final year students, staff and senior executives from different career fields.
New student ambassadors underwent master of ceremonies workshop
In order to better equip the new batch of student ambassadors, the School of Business organised a one-day intensive training workshop on "Core Competence of a Master-of-Ceremony" on 25 May 2015. 


 
Incoming study tours from Ireland, Taiwan & Beijing
Students from National University of Ireland, Feng Chia University of Taiwan and Beijing Union University visited our School in June 2015. They visited local renowned enterprises and attended seminars to explore the current business environment of Hong Kong.
Students’ creative idea wins marketing challenge
Four Year 3 students of the BCom in Marketing programme won the Best Video Award at the 2014/15 "Social Media Marketing Challenge" organised by Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority and PC Market. 
 
BCom students awarded scholarships
Nine students from the BCom in Marketing programme received scholarship under the Self‐financing Post‐secondary Scholarship Scheme. The award ceremony was held at the Shek Mun Campus on 28 May 2015.

 
DBA Tianjin Class on HKBU campus
Students of DBA Tianjin Class joined research seminars at HKBU on 12-15 Jun 2015, during which they also attended a sharing session hosted by Dr. Victor Ng, our DBA graduate, and a workshop on Fund and M&A by Mr. Paul Pong, Managing Director of Pegasus Fund Managers Ltd.

 
Delegation visits from overseas universities
Delegations from Pace University from USA and EMLYON Business School from France visited the School of Business to exchange ideas and to explore research and academic collaboration opportunities.
 
Congratulations to Mr. Romeo Chu, our HRM alumnus and mentor, who hosted a office relocation party on 7 Jun 2015.

Romeo first set up his headhunting firm - Talent Pro Recruitment in 2014, and his business swiftly expanded from 4 to 25 staff in a year. He is now our HRM mentor and actively supports our internship programme. 
Congratulations to Mr. Eric Hong
(BBA '13, Marketing), who obtained his Master of Law degree in European and Asian Legal Studies from the University of Vienna with distinction. 

He would like to take the opportunity to thank Dr. Frederick Yim, his honours project supervisor at HKBU, for giving him fruitful guidance in developing his research and writing skills.
