CONFERMENT OF HONORARY PROFESSORSHIP TO MR. SHIH WING CHING

The School of Business conferred an honorary professorship to the founder of Centaline Group and am730, Mr. Shih Wing Ching, JP as recognition for his outstanding achievement in entrepreneurship and management on 15 Sept 2015.The ceremony also marked the beginning of the academic year for our new postgraduate students.

New HKBU President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Roland Chin, welcomed over 400 new postgraduate students, quoting words from Martin Luther King Jr to explain the essence of education. “We must establish our unique character that comes before being intelligent,” said Prof. Chin. He also encouraged students to do the right thing and contribute to the society. “Be the leader with vision and make, no matter significant or subtle, changes to the world.”

In the acceptance speech, Mr. Shih shared the topic of "Property Right and Its First Time Distribution", detailing how the economy can be better balanced with proper distribution of newly created wealth.

A WARM WELCOME TO OUR NEW STUDENTS
BBA, MScBM and DBA programmes held orientations for the new students to learn about the programme content, familiarise with the campus and meet new people. Alumni experience sharing, team building workshops, campus tours and networking tea reception were organised to help them get prepared for the university life ahead.
PHD STUDENTS AND FACULTY NOMINATED FOR BEST PAPER AWARD AT AOM ANNUAL MEETING
Prof. Flora Chiang of the Department of Management and her PhD students, Emmy van Esch and Frank Cai, were nominated for Best Paper Awards for two separate manuscripts submitted to this year's Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting in Vancouver in August.
FDS FACULTY AND PHD STUDENT CAPTURE DISTINGUISHED PAPER AWARD
Dr. Christy Cheung, Associate Professor of the Department of Finance and Decision Sciences, and her PhD student Randy Wong received Distinguished Paper Award at the “International Conference on e-Commerce, e-Administration, e-Society, e-Education, and e-Technology” held in Sept.
PROF. PRENDERGAST RECEIVES EDITOR AWARD
Prof. Gerard Prendergast, Associate Dean of the School of Business, was recognised with the "Outstanding Associate Editor Award" by the International Journal of Advertising, published by Routledge/Taylor and Francis. The award was announced at the annual International Conference of Research in Advertising (ICORIA) held by the European Academy of Advertising.
BBA STUDENTS WIN FINANCIAL PLANNER AWARD

Four BBA students claimed second runner-up in the SCMP/IFPHK Financial Planner Awards 2015. They expressed sincere thanks to their coaches Dr. Choo and Mr. Lam for teaching them to think from different perspectives and polishing their presentation skills.

GATEWAY TO BIG 4
The School of Business Alumni Association organised Gateway to Big 4 seminar on 13 Sept. Eleven alumni, who currently practice in the big four accounting firms, shared their first-hand experiences of job interview with over 160 students. The Association also organised a visit into the restricted area of the Hong Kong International Airport in early Sept.
STRATEGIES TO RETAIN & MANAGE MATURE EMPLOYEES

In the seminar “Strategy and Tactics for Retaining and Managing Mature Employees in 2020” on 24 Sept, Prof. Randy Chiu, Director of CHRSD, revealed that employers’ perception of mature employees was positive in general. He stressed that they were valuable resources to the aging labor force. Ms. Joyce Mak, CEO of Gingko House, was invited to share her experience of managing a large group of employees over 60.

THE FIRST TOASTMASTER CLUB MEETING
The School of Business Toastmasters Club organised its first meeting with the theme “Where Leaders Are Made”. Several attendees, who were first-time speakers, remarkably impressed the more experienced guest attendees with their level of quality and courage.
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CAREER SERVICES SECTION

The newly established Career Services Section serves as a hub providing business students with the most up-to-date market information and e-resources. Industry seminars and interactive workshops will be organized through Programme Offices and our Section coupled with the assistance from AIESEC interns.
