I think I can just about get away with saying Happy New Year!  It's been rather busy in the treatment room over the last year, hence the lack of newsletters, and I have so many exciting things to share with you!

This newsletter focuses on keeping the mind healthy, Reiki and an amazing new treatment launching in March. There are also some lovely offers to take advantage of this month and a notice of price increases.

As we launch ourselves in to the new year, with grand plans and ideas of what we might achieve in 2017, make sure to add in some time to look after you. Practice these three tips everyday and they will soon become second nature.
  • Speak well to yourself. We believe everything we tell ourselves and yet we can often be found telling ourselves off for not achieving what we set out to do, Talk to yourself only as you would talk to your best friend.
  • Let go of emotions you don't need. We all make mistakes, say things we didn't mean or do things we later regret. You can't change what has happened so take the event in mind, and with intention, place it in a balloon and send it floating off into the sky. You'll feel much lighter!
  • Focus on the positive. Life can be hard at times but focusing on the negative just sends out more negativity in to the universe, and what you send out returns to you in abundance! I was taught this trick by an NLP tutor Sue Ricks and it works a treat. Make a list of two things you love and one thing you love about yourself. (I remember choosing my two daughters and my smile). Now practise keeping this list in the front of your mind and every time you catch yourself focusing on the negative, think of your list of positives, smile and watch out for all the love and positivity that comes your way.


Spotlight on Reiki

Usui Reiki is a safe, gentle yet powerful hands on therapy harnessing the universal life force or energy that is all around us.

Reiki is a healing method developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th Century. Pronounced ‘ray-key’, it literally translates as ‘Rei – universal’ and ‘Ki – life force’. Stress, illness, injury and negative emotions can cause blockages in our emotional and physical body systems which can cause us to feel sluggish, tired and unwell. Reiki can help to clear these blockages, replenishing and re-balancing our energy. Creating a deep sense of relaxation activates the bodies own natural healing processes to restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and emotions, leaving us with a sense of serene calm and togetherness.

Focus on Keeping a Healthy Mind - Making Time for Yourself

We can often feel guilty for spending time on ourselves when there are other jobs to do and people clammering for our attention but in order to support them, you first need to support yourself. Try building some of these ideas in to your week:

Organisation - it's very easy to feel overwhelmed with a to do list longer than your arm jumbling about in your head while you lurch gracefully from one thing to the next trying not to forget anything. Writing all your 'must do's' on a weekly planner allows you to just focus on the jobs you absolutely have to do each day. Follow the link below for an awesome free downloadable weekly planner from Paige Simple.

Mindfulness helps to increase your awareness of your thoughts and feelings, allowing you to manage unhelpful thoughts and be kinder to yourself. I have found this book and CD very useful Mark Williams - Finding Peace in a Frantic World. (Some of the meditations can be found on YouTube if you want to check it out first)

Relaxation techniques help us to de-stress and improve our mental well-being. Schedule in a treat on your to do list that's just for you: a nice long bath, a yoga or pilates class or simply reading a magazine or watching a good film.

Get out in Nature; being in the fresh air greatly improves your mind, brushing away the cobwebs. Add in a brisk walk to release endorphins ('feel good' hormones)  to calm anxiety and lift your mood.

Focus on your breath; breathing deeply increases your sense of well-being. Try breathing in through your nose for a count of four, hold for one and breath out through the mouth for four counts. Repeat five times. Five deep slow breaths automatically slows your heart rate.

Keep in touch with friends and family. Make a note to call someone each week, it's great to catch up with each others news, have a laugh and share any feelings you need to. Voicing your feelings and being listened to can help to put things into perspective.
