December 16, 2015                                    Nr. of recipients: 2248

Dear ESP members and friends,

Hereby we provide you with an update for ESP members and friends about the latest developments within the Partnership and we wish you peaceful Holidays and a Happy New Year!

1. ESP Conferences

ESP8 World Conference in South Africa 2015
All presentations will soon be made available on the Conference website and the ESP Flickr database with pictures is still growing. If you would like to contribute with some of your own photos from the Conference, please send them to the ESP secretariat.
Evaluation: Those of you who took part in this year’s World Conference received an invitation to participate in a survey in the beginning of the month. We kindly remind you that the survey closes on 18 December, so if you did not find the time to fill it out yet – please do so before Friday, 17:00 CET. Your feedback will be highly appreciated!

European ES Conference 2016
ESP, OpenNESSOPERAs and ECOPLAN are happy to invite you to the European Ecosystem Services Conference 2016: Helping Nature to Help Us, Antwerp 19-23 September!
This conference will be the biggest European event in 2016 that links science, policy and practice on ecosystem services and natural capital. With a strong focus on practice and implementation the conference will showcase research, share working examples from business, land management, policy and local practice. The Call for session proposals is already open: the deadline for sending in session proposals is 1 February 2016.
Stay tuned for more information on the official conference website and follow the conference on Twitter with  .

Other Regional ES Conferences 2016: Save the Dates!
  • RC Asia in South Korea, 30 May-3 June, organised by the National Nature Trust*. The website for this conference will soon be launched. Suggestions for session-topics can already be send to Namue Lee with cc to Dolf de Groot.
  • RC Africa: Kenya, 21-25 November,  organised by ICRAF*
  • RC North America: Florida, 5-9 December, organised by ACES*
* These are the main event organisers. They are assisted by a larger Organising Committee consisting of representatives from other local ESP-partners. Websites for these events will be ‘on air’ soon.

The Regional Chapters in Latin America and Oceania are also planning conferences, but dates have not been set yet. More information will follow soon.

2. ESP Working Group activities

3. ESP Regional Chapter activities

  • A new ESP National Network is established in Germany. There are 30 participants from different scientific organisations, environmental and agricultural NGOs and several political authorities. They already formulated a mission and several working groups are set up. Click here for more information.

4. Other ESP News

  • ESP Journal ‘Ecosystem Services’ now ISI listed!
After only 2,5 years the Journal ‘Ecosystem Services’ is now included in the Thomson-Reuters databases. This is an exceptional achievement in no small part due to the efforts of the Editor-in-Chief, Leon Braat, one of the Ecosystem Services researchers of the first hour. Ecosystem Services was developed after the 4th ESP-conference in 2010 and launched in 2012.
  • New ESP website
The ESP secretariat is working on a new website, which is planned to be launched coming spring. This new website will have a highly interactive community portal to foster working group activities. Every working group will get its own protected space to easily work in and store their shared documents. Working groups can then also have real time discussions within their own working group or with  the entire ESP community. Working group lead teams will be able to more easily manage their working group pages.
  • Revision membership types
Together with the launch of the new website we will revise the ESP membership structure and associated benefits. More news on that in the beginning of 2016.
