ESP Update 04/2017

April 19, 2017                                  Nr. of recipients: 2814

Dear Subscriber,

With this update we would like to provide you with an overview of the latest developments within our Partnership.

ESP World Conference 2017: Shenzhen, China

11-15 December

The central theme of the upcoming world conference will be “Ecosystem Services for Eco-civilization: Restoring connections between people and landscapes through nature-based solutions”. The conference keynotes will highlight diverse aspects of this overarching theme; the program and break-out sessions will largely be determined by the participants and provide ample space for the many ESP working groups, national networks and SERVICES-teams to get together and bring the Ecosystem Services science, policy and practice further.

Call for Sessions

30 April is the deadline for the submission of session proposals. We encourage anyone interested in hosting a session to submit a proposal by that date. Proposals submitted after this deadline will still be considered but chances of acceptance will decrease due to limited availability of session-slots. Please submit your session proposals through the online session proposal submission form. Click here for more information about session proposals.

Why Shenzhen, China?

China has a rapidly expanding community of scientists who publish innovative ES work in international journals. A growing number of policy-makers and practitioners use the ecosystem services approach to achieve a more sustainable and eco-friendly society. In and near Shenzhen there are many examples of these initiatives; hosting the ESP9 conference there provides a unique opportunity to share experiences and discuss opportunities and incentives to use the ecosystem services approach for ecosystem restoration and sustainable, nature-based-solutions in terrestrial and marine natural, rural and urban areas.

Network analysis

There is a rapidly growing number of organisations explicitly using the ES concept in science, policy and practice. In addition to our own (ESP) member organisations we want to facilitate interaction between these organisations to stimulate collaboration, enhance complementarity and avoid duplication. An initial overview can be found here. but we would like to make this overview more complete and develop an interactive database. If you know of other organisations not listed there, please send an email to info@es-partnership.org
