ESP World Conference 2017

11-15 December

The preparations for the 9th ESP World conference in China in December are in full swing. The overarching theme this year will likely focus on the role of ecosystem services in ecosystem restoration and nature based solutions in natural, rural and urban areas. ESP is proud to present the new conference website:

Call for session proposals

Hereby we would like to call for session proposals. We encourage all ESP Working Groups, Regional Chapters and National Networks to use the occasion to get together. Of course, also other proposals not directly related to a working group are welcome, especially related to Ecosystem Restoration and Nature based Solutions which will probably be the main conference themes. We already received several interesting ideas from among others the Natural Capital Project, FAO and several ESP Working Groups.

Session proposals can be submitted through the online session proposal submission form before the 30 April deadline.

Outcomes 2016 ESP Conferences

Blog post by ESPA: Defining Poverty Is Vital If You Want To Fix It
This blog post was inspired by one of the special sessions at the European Ecosystem Services Conference, held last September in Antwerp, Belgium. The ESPA researchers attending the conference were looking at ecosystems at a global level, and more specifically in the context of helping poorer communities across the world. Results 2016 ESP Conference Surveys
2016 was the first year the ESP organised regional conferences, and with great success. Over the course of the year we welcomed more than 1300 participants on 4 different continents. To learn from this year ESP has compiled a survey report consisting of survey results of the four conferences. The report of the survey will be made available on this page.

ESP SERVICES

The ESP secretariat believes that the ESP SERVICES are vital to ESP’s mission. They provide important information to the ESP members on case studies, key sites, toolkits, guidelines, training and education materials, networking opportunities, and more. We would like to use the monthly update to showcase a different ESP SERVICE each month.

Guidelines and toolkits

Canadian Ecosystem Services Toolkit now online

On behalf of a Government Task Force on "Value of Nature to Canadians", Susan Preston and Ciara Raudsepp-Hearne developed a toolkit for planning and undertaking an ecosystem services assessment and the analyses that contribute to such an assessment. The Toolkit is freely available for download
here.

It is a living document so all users are encouraged to share insights from their use of it, to inform future editions. Please contact Susan.Preston@Canada.ca.

Examples: successful application of ES

One question we often get (and we are sure you do as well) is if and how the ES-concept helps to achieve sustainability. Is it really making a difference? We want to develop a repository of success-stories which members can query when they get these questions, or are just curious themselves. Please send your suggestions (publications, interviews, video’s etc.) to info@es-partnership.orgWe will soon create a new webpage for this SERVICE.

ALSO: if you are interested to help coordinate this and/or other SERVICES please let us know by sending an email to Dolf.deGroot@wur.nl.
