Dear ESP members and friends,

Today, 90 days are left until the ESP Conference. Hereby we would like to inform you about the latest conference developments.

1. ESP8 Conference South Africa, 9-15 November 2015

Abstract review

We received exactly 400 abstracts in total. They have all been reviewed and most could be accepted for the workshop of first choice. All authors should have received an e-mail about the status of the abstract. Currently the 2nd review-round is underway and the results should be available before 15 August.
Submission for all type of abstracts is now CLOSED.

Pre-& post conference sessions

This year, two very interesting pre-conference and one post-conference sessions are planned:
  1. Two-day training on “Integrating ecosystem services into development planning” by GIZ (German Development Organisation: (Saturday 7 – Sunday 8 November).
  2. A one-day event organised by the Natural Capital Coalition ( ) on “Incorporation Ecosystem Services into public and private decision-making and practices” (Sunday 8 November).
  3. A post-conference ‘Atelier’ (3-5 days) on “Developing an Ecological Infrastructure and Ecosystem Services Sector in South Africa” organised by the Department of Environmental Affairs.
Please keep an eye on the conference website for details about how to register and involved costs. These details will follow soon, but we inform you now already so you can keep this in mind when making your travelling-schedule.

Early bird registration ends 31 August, so if you want to take advantage of the lower rate you should register before that date. Please remember that ESP members are entitled to a reduced conference fee. Please e-mail in case you paid for your membership fee, but didn't receive the discount code yet.

Spier offers a special ESP8 rate for conference participants, however, they only have a limited amount of rooms available. Click here for more information about room reservation. Stellenbosch has many alternative accommodation options, some of them are listed on the conference webpage. Please note that accommodation is not included in the conference fee, and should be arranged by yourself.

Field trip

Five field trips have been put together especially for ESP Conference participants. The outlines are now available on the field trip page. Field trip registration is possible through the registration form.
