High-level Conference on Green Infrastructure – Preserving our Natural Capital through Policy and Practice

Green Infrastructure is a holistic tool to tackle biodiversity loss while contributing to smart and sustainable socio-economic growth. It provides us with solutions for a better quality environment, a healthier society and a more prosperous economy. Green Infrastructure is especially important to the European Union due to its potential to help us preserve and enhance ecosystem services and adapt to climate change in a multi-stakeholder setting.

Green Infrastructure Conference organized by CEEweb aims to bring together public officers, business representatives, policy makers, non-governmental organizations and personalities from the academic world to share and discuss experience and inspire new ways of thinking for a more efficient preservation of our natural capital in Central and Eastern Europe in light of the most recent EU initiatives. The conference going to be held on 6-7 October 2014 in Ráckeve, Hungary.will also include presentations on Green Infrastructure as a business opportunity. Please check the full agenda here.

In order to register your participation please go to: http://www.ceeweb.org/event/ceeweb-academy-on-green-infrastructure/. Deadline is 15 September.

We would be honoured if you could attend the event and share your expertise as well as bringing promotional materials regarding how your organisation contributes to preserving and enhancing our natural capital!

Green Action Plan for SMEs: turning environmental challenges into business opportunities

This Green Action Plan (GAP) presents a series of SME-oriented actions proposed at European level to help exploit the business opportunities that the transition to a green economy offers, by improving resource efficiency of European SMEs, supporting green entrepreneurship, exploiting the opportunities of greener value chains, and facilitating market access for green SMEs.

The List of EU actions supporting SMEs in a green economy include 34 actions and their objectives providing European SMSs with practical information, advice and support on how to improve their resource. Actions cover the establishment of a European Resource Efficiency Excellence Centre, an awareness raising campaign on resource efficiency, or financial intermediaries provided by the European Investment Bank for resource efficiency improvements linked to ecosystem services and climate change adaption. The Plan also recommends establishing a Network of Eco-Innovation financiers, verifying the performance of innovative environmental technologies, as well as incentivizing cross-sectoral and cross regional cooperation in support of new resource-efficient value chains. Furthermore, actions include also the establishment of an expert group that focuses on systemic approach to eco-innovation, a low carbon business action with middle-income countries and a Green technology transfer action from Europe to South Mediterranean countries.
