CAMRA - Richmond & Hounslow Branch

Dear <<First Name>>

Dear members,

As we approach what may be a challenging year for both our Branch and CAMRA as an organisation may I on behalf of the Branch Committee wish you a merry Festive period and a happy New Year. I would also like to thank Richard Northmore for penning the following article describing our Branch activities.

At our meeting at the Roebuck in January we will be agreeing the long list for the 2019 Good Beer Guide for which each member can nominate up to 25 pubs in the Branch area via the website address but please include a membership number and get the nominations in before 16 January.

Best wishes to all, cheers, Charles Owens, Branch chair.

Recently CAMRA HQ decreed that the Richmond & Hounslow branch is to cover the entire boroughs of Richmond and Hounslow. Henceforth those areas north of the Great West and Great South West Roads as well as W4 will be part of the new branch – all change!! So, what are we all going to do about it? Together, let’s all take advantage of the new arrangements.
The overall R&H branch area is significantly bigger than it was. There are now well over 1,000 members including the extra 170 or so members in the new area.
There are a whole lot of extra pubs which all the members don’t know. It will be fun exploring these together. We are making a start across the whole R&H branch area:

  • Tuesday 19th December - Chiswick pub walk, starting at 7.15pm in the Mawson Arms/Fox & Hounds, 110 Chiswick Lane South, W4 2QA, then (8pm) George & Devonshire, (9pm) Tabard, (10pm) Lamb and (10.30) Old Pack Horse. See the R&H branch diary in What’s Brewing.
  • Thursday 14th December - (8.0pm) Committee Meeting to be held at the George IV, 185 Chiswick High Rd, W4 2DR. Open to all CAMRA Branch Members.
  • 9th January - (8.0pm) Committee Meeting to be held at the Queen's Head, 123 High Street, Cranford, TW5 9PB. Open to all CAMRA Branch Members.
  • Wednesday 17th January - (8.0pm) Meeting including the nominations for GBG 2019 + re-presentation of Branch Pub of the Year 2017 award at the Roebuck, 130 Richmond Hill, TW10 6RE. Open to all CAMRA Branch Members.
  • Wednesday 24th January - East Sheen pub walk, starting at 7.45pm; Stag's Head (formerly Halfway House), 24 Priests Bridge, SW14 8TA, then (8.30) Hare & Hounds, (9.15) Pig & Whistle, (10pm) Bear Kick.

Do come along to these especially if you live nearby. In the future, it will be fun to find the hidden gem pubs and to try the beers together.  Hopefully we can show these off to all R&H members.
The resized Branch needs help! There are vacancies in the organisation generally. We especially need volunteers who know the pubs in the additional areas to help on the pub scene by providing information on what is going on and to participate in campaigning and pub preservation.
It will be fun to widen the R&H circle and to meet each other. The objective is to make the R&H Branch effective in tracking beer and pub affairs in our area and to promote togetherness as a Branch.
The R&H Branch is reasonably active not only as shown above but also it runs the annual Twickenham Beer Festival in October which is very enjoyable. The Committee and members are friendly!!

Let’s sink a few pints together!!
