You and your congregation may be interested to know that one of our longtime NTA members, and our South Central Conference attorney, Jim Blume, has begun a separate company "Ecumenical Mediation Services" to train ministers and other members of the Church in the art of mediation.  It is a 40 hour course; more information can be found at  Jim and his associates have also offered to come and speak at NTA UCC churches about estate planning (including or specificly LGBT estate planning!), charitable giving, investing, and tax planning at your church's convenience.  For more information about any of these great services, contact Pat Fioretti at (214) 373-7788 or

[Please Copy and Paste the update below into your congregation's newsletter!]

Lots of things are happening in the North Texas Association during the month of October!  First and foremost, I hope you all received the official call to meeting for our fall association meeting at First Congregational Church in Forth Worth on Saturday October 18th at 10:00am.  This will be both an exceptionally significant and enriching day as we have both crucial business to conduct and a wonderful program in store.  As far as business goes, there will be a proposal on the agenda to raise association dues and to adopt a spending plan for 2015, as well as several ecclesiastical councils, for which you will soon receive papers.

Speaking of ecclesiastical councils, our NTA committee on ministry had a marathon meeting this past Saturday at Central Congregational Church in Dallas where we met with a record number of candidates!  We are so blessed to have so many interested in leadership in our denomination!  A big thank you is due to all your COM members for all their hard work on our association's behalf and to all those who came out to meet with us.

In other news, the NTA Women's fall meeting will be at St. Paul's UCC in Gerald on October 15, 2014. Registration begins at 10:00am and the meeting will start at 10:30am.  The meal will be $8.00 per person. Please call Sandy Leuschner at 254-753-8632 or email her at by October 9th if you plan to attend.  The speaker will be Joyce Brammer from Mission Waco and she will speak about the Christmas Toy Drive they do for the children.

Don't forget to pray for Rev.s Middleton and Bassig as they travel to the UCC Church House in Cleveland on October 9th for an Economic Leaders Justice Event.  Please also celebrate in body or spirit with St. John's in Robinson, who will be celebrating 130 years on October 12th, and Friedens Church in Reisel, who will be celebrating 110 years on October 26th!

I'm sure many of you have heard that our dedicated conference minister, Rev. Douglas Anders, has announced his retirement after 8 years of faithful service to the South Central Conference.  Rev. Anders will be with us until July 2015, and I hope that will give everyone time to thank him for his years of dedicated ministry to us. Rev. Katherine Godby, associate pastor for spiritual life at Cathedral of Hope, has also announced that she has accepted a call to hospice work, and we all wish her well in her new ministry where she will continue to bless others with her gentle heart and deep wisdom.  Please pray for Katherine, Douglas, the conference, and Cathedral of Hope throughout this time of transition.

Looking ahead, all NTA clergy, pastors, ministers, and members in discernment are warmly invited to a Book Brunch at 10:00am on Monday November 10th to discuss Pastrix by Nadia Bolz-Weber. The location is still to be determined, but I'm looking for a place in the area of West, Texas. Please email to RSVP or for more information.

Don't forget to follow the NTA on Facebook at  A new website is also in the works to be unveiled at the Association Meeting!
