September 2014

[Please Copy and Paste the update below into your congregation's newsletter!]

I have so many joys to share with you for September!  First, please congratulate NTA pastors Rev. Ed Middleton and Rev. Bernard Bassig, who were chosen to travel to the UCC Church House in Cleveland October 9-12 for an Economic Leaders Justice Event!  Rev. Middleton will be representing the South Central Conference and Rev. Bassig will be representing PAAM, Pacific Islander Asian American Ministries.  We also congratulate retired Rev. Paul Mohr, NTA pastor now residing in Coupland, on the 65th anniversary of his ordination and the 50th anniversary of his marriage to Anna Belle!  And looking ahead, 2 of our NTA churches are also having big anniversaries next month; St. John's in Robinson will be celebrating 130 years on October 12th and Friedens Church in Reisel will be celebrating 110 years on October 26th!  Details on these celebrations to follow.

In other news, First Community UCC in Dallas has generously offered to host a "Come and See" for the New Beginnings Assessment Service of the UCC on Saturday September 13th at 10am.  If your congregation has 70 or less in worship, an aging membership, significant financial or building issues, or is located in a changing neighborhood, you might be interested in learning more about this service at the "Come and See."  In the meantime, visit their website for more information at http://www.ucc.org/new-beginnings/.

Exciting plans are in the works for our fall association meeting at First Community in Fort Worth on October 18th!  This promises to a be a wonderful program focusing on "The Art of Worship."  We also have some exceptionally important issues on the table from both the Executive Committee and the Committee on Ministry.

Don't forget to follow the NTA online on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ntaucc.  A new website is also in the works, as well as an upcoming clergy gathering!

Mediation Training and Church Workshops

You and your congregation may be interested to know that one of our longtime NTA members, and our South Central Conference attorney, Jim Blume, has begun a separate company "Ecumenical Mediation Services" to train ministers and other members of the Church in the art of mediation.  It is a 40 hour course; more information can be found at www.ecumenicalmediation.com.  Jim and his associates have also offered to come and speak at NTA UCC churches about estate planning (including or specificly LGBT estate planning!), charitable giving, investing, and tax planning at your church's convenience.  For more information about any of these great services, contact Pat Fioretti at (214) 373-7788 or pfioretti@bfsnlaw.com.
