Migrants Matter

We're excited to announce that Birchwood Highland is organising a Symposium to discuss issues around mental health of EU migrant communities in the Highlands. The event will focus especially on the role of stigma and self-stigma in preventing Highland migrants from seeking help when experiencing mental health issues. It will also try to find solutions to help overcome the existing barriers to accessing mental health services by EU migrants. This Symposium is part of our year-long project called ‘Migrant Matters’, which is funded by See Me Scotland

The research findings will be presented at the Symposium alongside other academic papers on the subject of migration and mental health. The Symposium is planned to take place on 26th May 2016 at the Jurys Inn Hotel (formerly the Thistle Hotel). If you would like to discuss any aspects of the event, please contact Paulina Duncan at

Birchwood Highland Updates

We're thrilled to announce the charity has been shortlisted for Best Third Sector Organisation by the Highland Business Women's Club awards. The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony in the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness on Friday 18 March, so we'll be sure to announce how we get on.

Birchwood's Head Office address has now changed from 5 Wells Street to our new home at 59 Tomnahurich Street. Contact us here

We have also obtained a See Me grant to carry out a project working with a school in Grantown on Spey researching communication between young people and their parents over mental health. This project will be an exciting step toward improving the way parents and young people talk about mental health, encouraging open, healthy and productive conversations leading to better outcomes. For more information on this project, feel free to email us.
