Understanding Cultural Inequalities for Mental Health Peer Specialists

This presentation will focus on cultural inequalities, individual human rights, and how these topics intersect from the perspective of mental health peer specialists. This webinar will discuss strategies that are being used in Arlington County, VA. Participants will learn how to help peer clients understand cultural inequalities and how to navigate the mental health and criminal justice systems by understanding their rights and using self-advocacy.

Supporting Underrepresented College Student Populations Experiencing or At Risk of Serious Mental Illness or Substance Use Disorders

Presenters will review data on the prevalence of serious mental illness and substance use disorders among underrepresented student populations. The discussion will highlight opportunities for colleges and communities to provide recovery support services to help students at risk of developing serious mental illness or substance use disorders, as well as those already experiencing these disorders, to achieve their educational goals.
