Bright Young Minds Conferences Reach Hundreds of High School Students Across Bay Area Region
Three Bright Young Minds (BYM) Conferences were held during February, March and April.  On February 7th, a BYM Conference was held at Napa Valley College and sponsored by CIBHS, Napa County, Napa Valley Unified School District and the Office of Statewide Planning and Development (OSHPD). On March 21st a BYM Conference was held at Solano Community College and sponsored by CIBHS, Solano County and funded by OSHPD.  On April 18th at Cal State University in Oakland a Conference was sponsored by Alameda County Behavioral Health, Faces for the Future Coalition and Oakland Unified School District.

The primary goal of Bright Young Minds is to increase awareness among high school-aged participants of the many types of behavioral health careers that are possible as well as to provide information about how to pursue these careers. The program also helps break down stigma surrounding mental health, and helps students learn about their own physical and mental wellness.
Adult Mental Health First Aid Instructor Training:
27 People Across the Bay Area Newly Certified

On June 10-13, CIBHS hosted a training course to teach instructors to provide Adult Mental Health First Aid in their communities in the Bay Area Region of California was held at Alameda County Behavioral Health in Oakland.  27 people from across the Bay Area were certified as Instructors.  This training was funded through the Greater Bay Area Regional Workforce Partnership. To learn more about how to become a Mental Health First Aid Instructor, click the button below.

Kevin Berthia speaks at Contra Costa College’s Health and Human Services 20th Anniversary Celebration
On May 17, 2019, suicide prevention advocate, Kevin Berthia shared his courageous journey to mental wellness after surviving a suicide attempt at the Golden Gate Bridge in 2005. This Psychosocial Rehabilitation Spring Conference was called “From Darkness to Light: Recovery, Change and Transformation.” This inspiring event included a panel discussion where participants shared their stories of recovery and hope. CIBHS contracts with Contra Costa College to provide support to the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery program as part of the work of the Greater Bay Area Mental Health and Education Workforce Collaborative.
