Sunday Sharing 26th October 2014

The Challenges of Discipleship

Dear Friends and Loved Ones,

We pray this sharing finds you well and your week was very blessed. Our week had been blessed as well despite the challenges of discipleship…

“WHOEVER DOES NOT BEAR HIS OWN CROSS AND COME AFTER ME, CANNOT BE MY DISCIPLE.” Luke 14:27

Perseverance in times of challenges is one teaching in Holy Scripture that we need to revisit frequently for nourishment of the spirit…especially when we are discouraged or need uplifting. But human nature in this modern age, avoids carrying crosses at all cost. Many years ago, our pious friends refused to follow us to mission, afraid of the hard labour and scared to be called to carry the burden of the poor. In other words, we generally risk compromising God’s mission for the path of least resistance...for most of us are not prepared to pay the price of impacting the world…indeed the challenges of discipleship.

“MAY THE LORD DIRECT YOUR HEARTS INTO GOD’S LOVE AND CHRIST’S PERSEVERANCE.” 2 Thessalonians 3:5

A bigger challenge as disciples is to break out of our comfort zone, for the life of discipleship is not about comfortable pews and golden crosses or spending time with other believers. It is about a clash of the extremes like give up our time & wealth to help the poor…it is not about protecting ourselves by staying in a cocoon but signing up for the war as His soldiers to go out to the world and spread His Gospel to build His coming kingdom. Self- preservation at the expense of obedience always has grave consequences in the Bible. Our challenge once again as disciples is to recognize where eternal safety lies and abandon ourselves to Christ who calls us to persevere, carry our crosses daily and sacrifice all we have…this is the biggest challenge of discipleship.

“FOR WHAT WILL IT PROFIT A MAN, IF HE GAINS THE WHOLE WORLD AND FOREFIETS HIS LIFE?” Matthew 16:26

But the cost of non-discipleship is even greater than the cost of discipleship! First, they will miss all the blessings & benefits of being completely sold out for Christ. Second, they will miss an intimate fellowship with the Creator of all that is. Thirdly, they will miss the peace and fullness of knowing they are right with God and last but not least, they will miss great eternal rewards! And these are the very blessings we experienced this week, despite the challenges of following His will, soliciting donations for the poorest of the poor, labouring to share God’s love to unbelievers, forgetting self and family for His sake, we received His grace, He sends volunteers to help us & provide for the moment whatever is needful…such are the joys of accepting the challenges of discipleship.

“AND LET US RUN WITH PERSEVERANCE THE RACE THAT IS SET BEFORE US…”Hebrews 12:1

Please scroll below and find photos of volunteers packing Shoeboxes for Jesus, now reaching 1500 SFJs in Perth alone with contributions from 3 schools like Liwarra Catholic School, Holy Rosary Catholic School, Bull Creek Primary School, GAP Youth Group from Willeton Parish and Gosnells parish. You will see how selfless some volunteers like Isabel, Flora, Gabby, Matt De Piazzi, Mat DeSouza, Daniel and many more! We see miracles when total strangers walk in with their donations same day as well as people handing us small donations to help pay for shipping cost and the list goes on which helped us persevere with our burden for the poor and need not face the challenges of discipleship alone.

“EVERYONE WHO ASKS RECEIVES; HE WHO ASKS FINDS; AND TO HIM WHO KNOCKS, THE DOOR WILL BE OPENED.” Matthew 7:8

We would like to share this reflection which touched us this week and pray we will bear our Cross and follow Jesus daily & forever!

"It is true that a person’s life is not from ones possessions or because of having an overabundance. He who is rich toward God is very blessed and has glorious hope. Who is he? Evidently, one who does not love wealth but rather loves virtue, and to whom few things are sufficient. It is one whose hand is open to the needs of the poor, comforting the sorrows of those in poverty according to his means and the utmost of his power. He gathers in the storehouses that are above and lays up treasures in heaven. Such a one shall find the interest of his virtue and the reward of his right and blameless life" by Cyril of Alexandria

“My heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.” St Augustine

CONTAINER 16 NEARLY FULL!
When Mike Soh received the vision on Containers for Jesus in 2011, little did he know at that time that the Lord was preparing us to help flood, fire and typhoon victims! God saw them all ahead of us and burned our hearts to fill up the first co many containers. Today, as of this sharing, we have nearly filled CFJ16 ready to bless street children, orphans and kids who will have their first Christmas after Haiyan (Yolanda) Typhoon. Please note that CFJ17 for Kenya is still half full and need more donations for their orphans there.
A QUIZ NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Praise God for the fantastic turnout and for filling up the event despite weather dramas, rain and hailstorm on October 18. So much to thank you Lord and we acknowledge Your Hand upon this ministry for the poorest of the poor and blessings for this coming Youth Conference, Embrace the Grace.

Thank you to the fantastic team of organizers lead by Bronia Karniewicz,Kamila SohEliza McKay and countless young and fabulous people and volunteers who made the event a great success and memorable night! We also thank the sponsors and donors of prizes, gift vouchers and precious gems!

Everyone enjoyed and had a great time truly impressed with the array of prizes, quizzes and surprises! Many were touched and wanted to volunteer to help pack Shoeboxes SFJ, load up Container for Jesus CFJ and we thank the Lord for just sending more workers in the fields!

Most of all, to Symon and Daryl for doing a fantastic job as emcees for the night. Last but not least,to Ric Del Pizzo from John XXIII College who arranged for us to hold the event at this amazing venue. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and God bless you all abundantly! See you at next event!

Everyone had a great time, fun and friendly competition, but the winning table was No 1! Yes indeed, never to write off senior citizens, they have the wealth of wisdom young people lack!

But the real winners are the homeless, the poorest of the poor, the street children and the prisoners who will benefit from this fundraising event and ETG's Young conference end of the year!

Thank you once again for your braving the weather and supporting these great causes and for helping us help the helpless!
