Fall Feelings
The days are getting shorter, the temperatures are dropping, and the grass has stopped growing, but the animals are still enjoying the pastures we stewarded all summer.  Soon we'll shut off our summer water systems and bring the animals closer to home, but they'll be outdoors all winter long.  Once the pastures have all been grazed we'll start feeding our homegrown, organic hay.  Every summer we manage the pastures with winter grazing in mind, rotating the animals around the farm in such a way to save as much stockpiled forage for winter as possible.  Feeding less hay means less work for us (Tractor time isn't Tristan's favourite chore), higher nutrition for the animals, and less fossil fuels burned using our tractor to make and feed the hay.  Hay will always be a necessary part of our winter feeding program, especially for our chickens and pigs, who we can't continue to rotate around the pastures all winter in the same way we do with the cows, but this year we hope to have our shortest hay-season yet...  we'll keep you posted!
Inventory Update
We know you all are anxiously awaiting the return of ground beef, ground turkey, and pork of all kinds.  It will be here soon!  Your beef is dry-aging as we speak, and pork will be here for our December delivery.  Ground turkey might be a little longer wait, but we expect to have it available for January.  In the meantime we've got lots of chickens, and a great assortment of beef and veal roasts and steaks.

New Technology on the Farm!
Any of you who have been following along with us for a while, know that electric fencing is a huge part of what makes our farm work.  It gives us the control we need in order to use our animals as tools to regenerate the land.  Check out this cool new toy we brought onto the farm this month - tumble wheels!  Instead of having to set up posts and run a new reel of electric wire across the pasture everytime we move the cows (which we do daily), with this new tool we only have to move one end of the line, and the tumble wheels move themselves!  This is an especially handy tool for the winter, when the ground freezes, making step-in posts hard to use.
Also - We've got eggs!
And we'll take your clean, used cartons back.
