ALUMNI IN ACTION

PARTNERSHIP WITH PATRICK HENRY ACADEMY

On Saturday, April 28, Ladue School District alumni, ranging from the class of 1958 to the class of 2006, gathered at Patrick Henry Downtown Academy in the St. Louis Public School District for the inaugural “Ladue Gives Back” service project.

Volunteers painted hallways and stairwells throughout the historic school, which has served students for 116 years (despite the creative photo above, painting graffiti was not actually a part of the project!). They also worked in the school’s community garden, planting and preparing the beds for the spring and summer season. Alumni enjoyed the opportunity to get together and reach outside the Ladue School District to improve the greater St. Louis community.

Through our community events, newsletters and other initiatives, the LEF strives to engage our more than 20,000 alumni and to support connections in the school community—and beyond.

YEAR IN REVIEW

LOOK WHAT WE'VE DONE. . . TOGETHER

The Ladue Education Foundation & Alumni Association has had a great year! The Foundation continues to grow and change while staying true to its expanded mission to advance the excellence of the Ladue School district and enhance its legacy by expanding opportunities for student success. In our efforts to join philanthropy with public education to bring together a community, provide world-class academic and enrichment programs, and promote connections for Ladue Schools alumni, we have:
  • Incorporated the Alumni Association into the LEF. We now represent the more than 20,000 graduates of the Ladue School District and held two alumni events this first year: a holiday happy hour at Schneithorst’s and “Ladue Gives Back," a day for graduates to donate their time at Patrick Henry Downtown Academy.
  • Approved grants this year for opportunities ranging from Latin libraries to breakout rooms, art galleries to Singapore Math experts, composer visits to laptops, knitting looms to stationary bikes. (Over our 12-year history we’ve awarded 125+ grants totaling more than $500,000.)
  • Hosted our signature events: LEF’s Annual Community Breakfast, ‘Due Run 4 Education, and our spring gala, Innovation Celebration. At the gala, emcee Jasmine Huda (’97) and keynote speaker Jonathan Losos (’80) shared their Ladue Schools experiences with students, teachers, alumni and parents. Attendees raised more than $70,000 to help fund our grant program, in addition to purchasing mobile science lab carts for our elementary schools and state-of-the-art microscopes and a weather station for LHWHS. A special thank you to the Gorski Family, the Minifie Family, Dr. Amy Parsons, and S.M. Wilson & Co. for being Innovation Celebration Seed Investor sponsors!
  • Received a $1,000,000 donation from an anonymous Ladue Schools graduate to endow an ongoing part-time coordinator position for the district’s Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) program.
  • Continued our capital campaign by offering naming rights and commemorative bricks – available for order until May 31 – to support the soon-to-be completed renovation of LHWHS.
  • Appreciated the teachers and staff of the Ladue School District! Beyond being terrific educators, they are also generous contributors to the LEF, with 125 staff members currently participating in the Pay it Forward payroll contribution program.
  • Ensured that interested children could join the band or orchestra, regardless of family circumstances, by purchasing additional loaner instruments. Sixty-eight donors contributed a total of $14,725 to purchase instruments.
  • Launched a club at LHWHS, the LEF Student Ambassadors, who are devoting volunteer hours to help our organization at numerous events throughout the year.
  • Welcomed new board member, Ann VonAllmen, and prepared to bid farewell to beloved board members Jeff Bogard, Vin Ko, and Jodi Minkler, as they complete their terms. We are truly fortunate to have such incredible and dedicated volunteers!
We are grateful for all of your support and look forward to growing stronger together in 2018-2019! If you have ideas or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at lef@ladueschools.net.
