ADVANCING EXCELLENCE

THE IMPACT OF SCREEN TIME

As 2016 came to a close, parents and kids in the Ladue School District learned about the impact of screens on the adolescent mind at a viewing of the documentary Screenagers, presented by the LEF, the LHWHS Parent Association, the LMS Parent Association, and the Ladue West Parent Association. The film explores the struggles many parents face with their children's use of social media, video games, and internet addiction. Over 100 people attended the screening and panel discussion on November 30. For information and to download a helpful parents' guide, read more...

COMMUNITY CORNER

GET TO KNOW CHARLES MEMS

The LEF's newest board member is also a Ladue School District alum. Charles Mems graduated in 2002 and has continued his involvement in the district ever since. He is the co-founder of the Ladue Girls Basketball Club and currently coaches the eighth grade girls' team. He also spent time as a teaching assistant at Reed Elementary School. Many students remember him fondly as the director of the after-school care program, BASK. The LEF was a natural fit for Charles, as community involvement and giving back are important to him. “If we want to give our students all the tools necessary to be leaders in the future, we have to be able to supply them with modern opportunities and new ways of thinking." Something you might not know about Charles? He loves superheroes and has auditioned for American Idol. Read more...
