Hi Passionate Inkers,

We are happy to say that the Passionate Plume is OPEN for submissions!

Published authors as well as unpublished authors are eligible to enter as long as your copyright is 2019 or 2020. And guess what? We have a new category — The Virgin Category. Intriguing, right? That’s for you...well, first time authors — the virgin writers. Contests are great for new authors because you receive feedback from our knowledgable judges.

For me, it's important to note that entering a new quarter is always fresh, exciting and sometimes can be overwhelming. I like to think ahead and create a loose plan for what I can expect over the next three months. How will I need to adjust my schedule for changes that are out of my control? What must happen, what would I like to happen, and what isn't a high priority but must get done?

Because for most of us, our sole job isn’t writing. I’m a mom, wife, dog mom, (fill in the blank be anything that messes with my writing schedule). I’m betting you are wearing just as many hats! It’s at about this time that the business plan I wrote at the end of 2020, needs a look over to remind me of my goals.

Stay focused. Stay writing. I hope you are selling lots of books!

By Barbra Campbell
In all likelihood, you’ve read a book and noticed errors. It happens no matter how many spelling/grammar checkers and professional editors you use.

So what can you do to reduce the number of errors that end up in your final manuscript? First and foremost, hire a professional, and if they offer to go through your work twice, let them. Remember, there is only so much they can mark up in one readthrough.

But there are situations where a person isn’t going to hire an editor. If this is your case, it’s up to you to clean up your manuscript, which requires time and dedication.

Whether you’re tidying your manuscript to send to an editor or if you are your own editor, here are some tips for getting it in the best shape possible.
  • Learn the rules! It’s not too late to take an English class or follow a grammar blogger if you aren’t solid on the rules.
  • Turn the KEYSTROKE function on so you can see extra spaces and other unwanted strokes.
  • Use spelling/grammar checkers but remember they can only do so much. A friend sent me a manuscript that she had put through three correctional programs and it still had errors.
  • Read slowly and critically, making sure to look for a balance of ‘stimulus-reaction-thought’.
  • Check for periods of extended internals or talking heads. Once in a while, these can work, but if it’s happening frequently, you may be lacking interaction between characters.
  • Watch for double prepositions. Sometimes they’re completely normal, but other times they can bog the reader down by presenting lots of small words. That’s another idea…watch strings of small words. They can be tedious to read.
Author Barbra Campbell writes fast and hot contemporary romance/erotic romance as an escape from the regular world. She's finally escaped most of the rat race to dream up sexy fantasy worlds where the characters are guaranteed a Happily Ever After, or at least a Happy For Now! And since she's busy, she appreciates stories that get right to the point!

The marshy landscape is a subject of photographic interest, but her attractive landlord Kit Couper is just as interesting.

The thing about pranking my kids every year for April Fool's Day was that the tradition was bound to come back and haunt me.

Never in a million years would I have imagined it would happen at the exact moment I crossed paths with the woman of my dreams. And that it would send her into a frantic rant about my immaturity.

But with age comes wisdom, and I was on a mission to prove to her that first impressions were sometimes wrong.

Virgin Ride

By Barbra Campbell
Release Date: March 24, 2021

The Redemption book coverI'd risen above my past while holding on to exactly two pieces of it: my love of music and my lack of trust in people.

The small, mountain town I'd settled in served as a sanctuary when I wasn't on the road performing. Its isolation let me focus on the thing that kept me sane, gave me purpose, and provided a paycheck-my viola. The rest of my needs were met with a stockpile of batteries and a healthy arsenal of fantasies.

Then the Men of Valor rode into town, and I seized the opportunity to fulfill a fantasy and trade in my V-card with no-strings-attached, no questions, and no icky trust and love complications. But life wasn't a piece of music that could be orchestrated. Fate had its own plan, and the single night I let my guard down left me with a decision I shouldn't make alone. A decision that could bring my carefully crafted world to ruins. A decision that was going to challenge me to trust.
