Summer is nearly here! Or, if you’re like me and your kids are ALREADY out of school, it has officially started. This means it won’t be long before thousands of romance writers descend upon New York City for RWA’s national convention.

Last time it was held in NYC was the first year I attended. I didn’t belong to a chapter and didn’t know a soul—my editor had convinced me to go. The first day I met Cristin Harber, an author I love, in an elevator. The next night I struck up a conversation at the bar with Lynda Aicher, who was a RITA finalist in erotic romance that year.

Flash forward to today. I’ve written in Cristin’s Kindle World and organized an anthology Lynda participated in. Going alone to NYC was scary and outrageously expensive, but worth it. The connections I made were invaluable.

Since Passionate Ink is an online chapter, face-to-face isn’t easy for us to get to know each other. And if NYC in July isn’t in your plans, I encourage you to find a local or budget friendly convention, a book signing, or a writer’s retreat. Networking online is great, but why not try it in person too? You never know who you’re going to meet or have fantastic discussions with!
