I hope this newsletter finds you well and that the fall lovers among us are enjoying the crisp cool days!
Who is using this month as Preptober for NaNoWriMo?
Did you know Passionate Ink has its own group for NaNoWriMo? The group allows our members to work together toward that 50,000 word-count goal. If you need something to kick up your writing game, NaNoWriMo is a great way to go. Board members Ryan Osborn and Jordyn Kross have been posting tips and questions in the PI Facebook group to get you primed for the month-long program. Be sure to check our Facebook group if you are participating in the challenge, and especially if you are looking for partners to keep you on target.
If you are new to writing and have no idea what I’m talking about: NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. This is a challenge for authors to write at least 50,000 words during the month of November. For some of us, this could be a whole book! Or half a book! Or five+ books if you write sexy shorts!
So, if you need that kick in the butt to get your butt back in your chair…..we are ready to help!!

Monthly Milestones
THIS MONTH'S GOOD NEWS & POINTS OF INTEREST
- LOOKING AHEAD: Chicago-North Romance Writers will be hosting its bi-annual Spring Fling Conference in April 28-30, 2022. Headliners are Vanessa Riley and Kit Rocha. They are open for workshop proposals and would love to hear what you can teach our attendees. The deadline is short (Sept 22) but if you want to pitch them, let them know and the may let you get the proposal in a bit late knowing it is coming. Follow THIS LINK to send your information. The coordinators of the conference note that although they plan to have an in-person conference, they also intend to make it a hybrid experience, steaming workshops for folks at home. If the state guidelines will not allow an in-person conference, they will go all virtual as they did in 2020.

MEMBER INTERVIEW | NIKKI KELEY
As a romance reader, Nikki had writing her own romance on her bucket list. During the pandemic, she decided if not now, then when, and began making that wish a reality. Fast forward to today — her first book is published and her second will be released next month.
To other first-time writers she says, “Read, write and learn the craft. It is easy to get frustrated but don’t give up, There will be a lot of moments when you’d like to do just that. Instead, reach out to the writing community to get you through." She also notes it is easy to get distracted and not stick to your goals, “So stay focused."
When asked about that imaginary parrot leaning over her shoulder, she says it squawks, “Another Coffee!"
When Nikki isn’t writing, she hits the gym, reads (not as much now that she's writing), and enjoys cooking and golf. She also loves to travel but is waiting out the pandemic to plan her next trip. Nikki lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
