MDDC's Reese Cleghorn Internship Program supports local publications and developing journalists by providing college students paid, intensive, real-world experience in member publications' newsrooms each summer.

Help provide substantive, intensive experience in newsrooms...with pay.

Over three dozen hopeful college students have applied this year for six coveted spots in the MDDC Reese Cleghorn Internship Program.  Over the past 15 years, 112 college students have had pivotal experiences serving as interns at member newspapers through the MDDC Press Foundation’s Reese Cleghorn Internship Program.
As you know, it is often one devoted mentor or a single opportunity to cover an exciting story that solidifies a young journalist’s commitment to journalism.
MDDC interns are treated like staffers and supported by mentors. In turn, they bring new life to our newsrooms with their innovative and multimedia skill sets. By harnessing young talent and keeping that talent local, we not only bolster students’ dedication to this career, but also build a stronger future for journalism in our region.
Each intern receives a stipend of $2,400 for the 8-week internship. To sustain this program and pay our interns, we rely on a portion of the profits from the Classified Ad Network and donations from individuals like you who believe in the importance of this training.
Today, I ask that you make a meaningful donation to allow more aspiring journalists to benefit from real-world training in journalism this coming summer. Together with your help, we can develop a skilled workforce of young journalists to ensure a strong future for our member newspapers and for journalism in Maryland, Delaware and DC.

This program makes a difference.

  • Over 77% of former interns report their internship confirmed  their career choice.
  • 68% of former interns worked a full-time, paid job in journalism after graduation.
  • Almost 90% of those employed full-time after graduation felt that their MDDC experience was a determining factor in getting that job.
Make a difference in the future of journalism with your contribution.
