U Market is committed to supporting the Board of Regents policy governing University purchases from targeted businesses*.
As President Kaler said, "diversity is a core value and an ongoing priority of the University of Minnesota. We as a community must ensure that diversity and equality of opportunity are integrated into everything we do, including how we do business. By strengthening targeted businesses, we also strengthen the community in which we all live and work."
What is a targeted business?
* A business owned and operated by underrepresented minorities, women and disabled persons.
Look for the target icon when shopping in U Market to find items from targeted businesses. Some items sourced from targeted vendors are resold by larger vendors and therefore are identified as targeted.
Chrom Tech, a new targeted business, will go live this week in U Market! See below for details.
They are Problem Solvers
Ask Larry Gilbertson what he likes about U Market Services and he says, “They are problem solvers. You give them the parameters of the issue and they can help you fix it.”
Larry is the Technical Services Production Manager in Classroom Technical Services (CTS). CTS handles all the technology in the University’s Twin Cities campus classrooms – of which there are about 335 for general use and another 400 that are department-based. CTS began working with U Market Services in 2007 when they arranged for UMS to make their daily deliveries. What, at the time, was thought to be a temporary solution soon turned into a partnership.
“I like working with them,” says Larry. “U Market Services offers a lot of services that are desirable from a reliability, customer service and cost effective standpoint. There are services that are required, in order to do our business at the university and not part of our core function. UMS makes it easier and more efficient to get them done. When I call, I know it will get done on time and as expected." Read the full article.
U Market will soon be offering Apple products through University of Minnesota Bookstores. This will be the first time a business internal to the University of Minnesota has been added to U Market! Shop this hosted catalog to find the best prices on Apple products including: computers, iPads and accessories.
Chrom Tech will be added to U Market on Friday May 13. A selection of their consumables will be available for purchase. Chrom Tech is a local and targeted supplier and is certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
Thanks to Kristen Berning in Purchasing Services, we now have resources to review the most important things that you should NOT do when creating the five types of requisitions: U Market, CPS, blanket order, standard purchase and VCPS.
If you have just over an hour you can play the entire recording, or if you want to
get right to the point, take a look at the Powerpoint presentation and scroll through for the slides that specifically address U Market.
A lot of work went into this invaluable presentation. Thanks, Kristen!
