Hello! Yes, it's been a while. But now we're back online, with new things for your ears...

To those of you who have recently joined this mailing list, welcome!

This is the place for news from Toucanradio, aka Sarah Elzas. I'll try to send out updates at least once a month, but not too much either, so as not to overwhelm your email box. You will find current and archived pieces here, as well occasional links to things that have caught my eyes/ears.

Feel free to respond if you like (or don't like) something. It's always nice to know I'm not broadcasting into the void!

Migrants on the streets of Paris

My latest piece for RFI looks at the people in Paris who have been helping the hundreds (thousands) of migrants who have arrived with the good weather. While politicians try to figure out a long-term solution (more housing, reforming the asylum system, etc.), and authorities try to keep the streets clean, residents have stepped in to fill the void: serving food, giving moral support. LGBT rights in Senegal

This Spring I spent time in Senegal, getting to know the history and development of the country's gay rights groups... and looking for women, who I found!

I produced a piece in English for RFI (it's a bit wordy, but covers the background). Click here to listen.

I also produced a longer piece in French, which focuses more on women. Click here to listen.
Stay tuned for more pieces coming out of this trip. I had the good fortune to be supported in this endeavor by a grant from the International Reporting Project.

Want more Toucanradio?

As I said above, I hope to be more proactive with this newsletter, with new pieces and material from the archives. If you want other updates (shorter, though more frequent), I am on Twitter!

Follow me there, or stay tuned for more here. Thanks for listening!
