BIG Things are Happening at NHDC!

We have been very busy in the National History Day in Colorado Office! We currently have a brand new website under construction. It is tentatively set to launch at the end of next week! You will still be able to find us at our current URL:

We also have a number of fantastic events and opportunities coming up for teachers, students, and volunteers! Read on for details...

Even though our annual two-day teacher training has come and gone, we have three additional opportunities coming up! These trainings fulfill Professional Development hours for teachers, and completion of the training makes participants eligible for the NHDC Graduate Class through the University of Colorado Denver. The CU Denver class provides 3 credit hours of Continuing and Professional Education or 3 hours of Graduate credit.

If you attended the two-day training in August, don't let that stop you! These trainings are filled with new material!

Breakfast and lunch is provided at all trainings, and we will be giving away door prizes! There is no charge for the trainings.

Want to create a winning project? Attend one of our research events!

We can't wait to see the amazing projects that our students will create this year! We want to help you put those expert touches on your projects. Consider attending one of our student research and support events.
Research Rendezvous
January 21 from 2:00 to 4:30 pm
Denver Public Library, Central Branch
The Research Rendezvous event pairs students with experts to assist with thesis development, research suggestions, and professional advice. Students must register for a 15-minute session with an expert prior to the event. Professional librarians will also be available to point students directly towards the resources they need.

We will also be hosting mini-sessions during the event:
  • 2:30-3:00: Mastering the Thesis Statement by Kayla Gabehart, NHDC Associate Director
  • 3:00-3:30: Art as a Primary Source by Kristen Fong, American Museum of Western Art
  • 3:30-4:00: Making Documentaries by Eric Hernandez, Associate Producer of Colorado Experience at RMPBS
  • 4:00-4:30: El Movimiento & Chicano History Resources by Laura Douglas, History Colorado Center
Makers Workshop
February 7 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm
History Colorado Center
The Makers Workshop event gives students participating in the Exhibit Category the opportunity to get advice from the professional exhibit creators at History Colorado. Please note this event is ONLY for exhibit contestants. Participants must also be prepared to either layout or construct their exhibit. This is NOT a thesis or research workshop. Some materials will be provided, but please bring anything you plan on using for your exhibit.
