It's in!

The request to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an uplift in grant support was submitted on Wednesday.  After a huge amount of work by the team we were able to put forward a really strong case to hopefully get the Robin the support she needs for a sustainable future.
Along with the business plan and architect's design report we were able to submit 28 letters of support for the project from organisations and individuals as wide ranging as the Boris Johnson's office, our local schools and universities, the British Marine Federation, local businesses such as ExCEL and the Emirates Airline and even Prof. Brian Cox.  We hope that these letters will illustrate to HLF how the SS Robin has become embedded in the local community and has the support of both businesses and politicians.
We also provided a copy of our rather stylish new brochure about the SS Robin Trust, which has been produced to help us with the fundraising campaign we will now be embarking upon. We are looking to secure alternative funding to provide a percentage of match funding against what we hope HLF will provide.

The HLF trustees will be meeting towards the end of July and we will let you know their decision as soon as we have it. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Dr Fenton
We had a rather special visitor to the office recently... Dr. Roy Fenton has written 25 books on shipping history and specialises in coastal trade during the age of steam. His thesis for his PhD was on the transition from sail to steam in coastal bulk trades.
Roy is presenting a paper on the SS Robin at the Sixth Thames Shipbuilding Symposium at the Museum of London, Docklands on the 9th May and wanted to use our archive for some research. He also donated to the Trust a copy of his book Coasters, An Illustrated History. (There's a rather fine ship featured on page 53!)
The HLF submission all laid out for a final check before delivery. A great effort from the SS Robin team, thanks to everyone for their hard work.
Dr Roy Fenton hard at work using our archive to research his paper for the symposium.
Coming up...

Dunkirk Little Ships and Hard Hat Tours

On the weekend of May 16th - 17th the Dunkirk Little Ships fleet will be visiting the Royal Victoria Docks. To celebrate their arrival we will be hosting a special tour for their crews and running some of our popular public 'Hard Hat Tours' so if you've not yet had a chance to see behind the scenes at the Robin make a donation and take a tour. The handling collection will also be out, with some new items added for the 2015 season.
On the Sunday we will be running a volunteering open day, in partnership with Peabody.
