Rounding up May...

Dunkirk Little Ships

We had a really busy weekend on the 16th and 17th May, despite the visit of the Dunkirk fleet being cut short due to an unfavourable weather forecast. Saturday morning saw Matt working with our volunteers and members of our resident Sea Cadet unit participating in a community event on the village green as well as running 'hard hat' tours all day. Sunday was Clare's turn. The team of SS Robin volunteers helped to give more tours to the general public, but also special tours for local Peabody residents. This was happening alongside an open day, run in partnership with Peabody who are supporters of the Trust. The aim was to get local residents interested in the project and volunteering opportunities. Lots of fun with activities for the kids alongside the tours and chats. A massive thank you to our volunteers who helped make the weekend such a success and also to everyone who came to see us.

IHS Maritime
You may remember our announcement that IHS Maritime had adopted the Trust as one of their corporate sustainability partners for 2015. Clare was delighted to attend their Coulsdon office at the end of last month to give a presentation about the Robin and accept a cheque for money raised by their staff during a cake sale. Sadly the cake had all gone! A willing group then came to the Robin for a volunteering day and despite some poor weather at the start of the day, made good progress with the jobs list.

Institute of Measurement and Control

The Surrey and Sussex Section of the Institue of Measurement and Control were so inspired by Andy Owler's talk about the SS Robin and instrumentation, that they wanted to take a tour of the ship. We were delighted to welcome them aboard and would like to thank them for both their personal donations to the project and for the donation made by their section of the institute. We will be sure to put the money to good use.

Thames Scout Cruise Club

The Thames Scout Cruise Club joined us for two tours, despite having to make last minute travel alterations when they discovered that the lifts on the footbridge weren't working. Thanks for your perseverance, it was great to meet you all.

Coming up...

Peabody, who support the project via our shore based premises are kicking off June by coming in for a volunteering day. Fingers crossed for good weather.

We have also got lots of 'behind the scenes' things happening, so that once the Heritage Lottery Fund decision is made in July we will be ready to kick things up a gear.

Clare will be taking advantage of the 'quiet before the storm' and catching up on some long overdue leave, so look out for Matt's first newsletter in June!
