Making Strides to Ensure Inclusion in Emerging Tech

Technology and accessibility innovators came together for the 3rd annual XR Access Symposium. The event featured speakers and sessions where attendees explored new ways to ensure inclusion in virtual, augmented, and mixed realities. Chike Aguh, the United States Department of Labor’s Chief Innovation Officer, gave the keynote presentation, “Seizing the Moment: Immersive, Inclusive, and Equitable Innovation.”
 

Planning for Emerging Technologies @ Work

Four leaders discussed how their lived experiences with disabilities shaped their careers. Each speaker shared what they think the future holds for people with disabilities and spoke about the potential to make every workplace inclusive. 

Building An Accessible Future: A Teach Access Case Study

Read our newly published case study, Building an Accessible Future – Teach Access: A Case Study. The case study is a companion resource to PEAT’s Accessibility Playbook for Emerging Technology Initiatives. This new resource documents the steps taken to launch and sustain Teach Access, an initiative of the Office of Disability Employment Policy, by including digital accessibility in the technology curriculum for higher education students. 
 

Introducing the GAAD Foundation

The founders of Global Accessibility Awareness Day announced the launch of the GAAD Foundation, an expansion of their commitment to raising awareness about digital access and inclusion. Learn more about the GAAD Foundation and its mission by visiting their website.
 

Mental Health Awareness Month Resources 

May was Mental Health Awareness Month, and many organizations shared articles and information to help employers foster healthy work environments for people with mental health disabilities. Introducing the Partnership on Inclusive Apprenticeship (PIA)

The Partnership on Inclusive Apprenticeship (PIA) is a new initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy. Launched in April, PIA works with employers and apprenticeship intermediaries to drive efforts to enable job seekers with disabilities to attain credentials, hone talents, and gain skills to succeed in high growth, high-demand industries through inclusive apprenticeships.
