Spring 2016 OIEPB Program Update

Please circulate to all internationally educated physiotherapists preparing to challenge the Canadian Physiotherapy Competency Exams

We hope you enjoyed the Winter season and now look forward to the warmth of Spring and Summer. In January, the comprehensive Class of 2016 completed their second internship and returned to the University to complete their final month of curricular and clinical activities. This culminating in their graduation ceremony and awards presentation on April 6, 2016 at the University of Toronto Faculty Club.

As well, we are very happy to welcome our new cohort of 35 learners. The Class of 2017 come from different parts of the world including Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Hong Kong, India, Iran,  Mauritius, Pakistan, Poland and the Unites States. We're looking forward to our next cultural potluck lunch after tasting wonderful dishes from these source countries during their Academic Residency Week. Regular classes and clinical site visits are underway!

The modular OIEPB program offers courses and workshops throughout the year. Many successful Winter/Spring online and refresher courses, MCQ and OSCE exam preparation workshops were offered and accessed by many IEPTs either globally or on site at the University of Toronto.

We thank you for your continued support of the OIEPB Program. We continually strive to improve and value your feedback in order to provide internationally educated physical therapists assistance in their journey to practice as a physical therapist in Canada.

We hope you continue to connect with the program. Please check our website periodically as we post updates as they happen. There will be new changes coming so stay tuned!

Comprehensive Class of 2016 Graduation

On April 6, 2016 OIEPB Program Class of 2016 celebrated their graduation with an awards ceremony and reception held at The University of Toronto Faculty Club.

Family, friends, faculty and honoured guests were in attendance to recognize these 26 internationally educated physical therapists as they celebrated their successful completion of the Comprehensive Bridging Program. 

Dr. Sharon Switzer McIntyre, OIEPB Program Director and Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy welcomed guests Dr. Allan Kaplan, Vice- Dean, Graduate and Academic Affairs, Professor Susan McCahan, Vice-Provost, Innovations in Undergraduate Education and Christina Martins, Parliamentary Assistant to Honourable Michael Chan, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade. Each esteemed guest shared thoughts, words of wisdom and offered congratulations to the graduates.

Then on behalf of the graduates, Class President Rodolfo Lastimosa expressed gratitude and appreciation to all those who have supported the Bridging Program. As well, several graduates representing their source countries of Brazil, Columbia, India, Iran, Pakistan, Philippines and the United States described how the program impacted and changed their lives both personally and professionally in a series of moving speeches. Following the speeches, a reception was enjoyed by everyone. Congratulations to the Class of 2016!
Welcome OIEPB Class of 2017!

The OIEPB Program welcomes the Class of 2017. These 35 internationally educated physical therapists were excited to begin the 10 month Comprehensive program. Classes started on April 25, 2016 with Academic Residency Week . It was a busy week for them; immersed into many aspects of the curriculum, clinical education and university life. To end the week, the OIEPB traditional Cultural Potluck was held on the last day of residency week. Everyone shared one of their favourite dishes from their country of origin. It was a gastronomic feast enjoyed by all and we're looking forward to many more throughout the program. Term 1 is underway and continues until the end of the summer with their first clinical internship starting in September. Welcome Class of 2017!


OIEPB Comprehensive Program Admissions

We will start accepting applications in August/September for the next cohort Class of 2018. Please visit our website for more about our admissions process. Please note that new dates and information will be updated on the website as soon as they become available.

Information Sessions will be held in the Fall and dates will be announced within the upcoming weeks. These sessions are free! Just sign up online if you are planning to attend.

Physical Therapy and the Canadian Health Care System online course

This course is approved by The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators to satisfy gaps in Context of Physiotherapy Practice in Canada.   Please note: This course addresses the Canadian health care system.  This course also covers provincial matters. The course runs over a 6 week period.

Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) Exam Skills Preparation Workshop

The MCQ Workshop is a skill development workshop to assist participants in preparing for and completing a competency-based multiple choice examination. These skills are valuable for those who are preparing for the written component of the physiotherapy qualifying exam. Practice tests during the workshop will be conducted on a computer-based platform. The focus of the workshop is on exam-taking preparation.

OSCE A and OSCE B Workshops:

OSCE A: Preparation and Practice

This workshop assists participants in identifying a study plan, study strategies, and knowledge or skills that are required for successful completion of an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) such as the Clinical Component of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam.
The workshop is focused on performance tips and study strategies. Registration is now open.

OSCE B: Practice Exam

This half-day OSCE workshop provides the opportunity to cycle through multiple formal OSCE stations, both written and practical, with standardized patients and skilled clinicians as examiners. You receive Examiner Feedback once you complete the station!

This workshop will build on the skills learned in OSCE A: Preparation and Practice, but can be taken without completing OSCE Part A.

We have exciting news! We value your feedback so we have added more session dates and more OSCE B practice stations for you! Choose from the Blue Bank or the Red Bank of stations.
Choose one or more of our OSCE Workshops if you would like to go through practice stations before you challenge the PCE.  Choose the session you want from the Table below and SIGN UP NOW to confirm your spot.

You've never taken one of our workshops before?
