OIEPB Program Update December 2017

Please circulate to all internationally educated physiotherapists preparing to challenge the Canadian Physiotherapy Competency Exams.

Season's Greetings!

The OIEPB team would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and interest in the physical therapy bridging program at the University of Toronto. We will continue to strive to provide the best programming for internationally educated physiotherapists (IEPTs). Here are a few highlights we'd like to share from this past year.

The delivery format of the comprehensive bridging program changed to online learning with focused onsite clinical practice sessions. This has enabled more IEPTs living outside of the Toronto area to access the bridging program. This change in format also has allowed many of our current learners to continue working while managing their online learning. Once they are onsite for the clinical lab sessions, they have many opportunities for hands on practice. Our patient volunteers and clinical partners provide our learners with many opportunities to gain real world experiences in a safe practice setting.

We saw the launch of our new website and are thrilled with the thousands of hits we have from all over the world. We're also increasing our presence on Twitter @UofT_PT so follow us to know what's happening in real-time! We continue to upload videos to our YouTube Channel UTorontoPT so subscribe to view the latest videos.

This past November marked the launch of the OIEPB Alumni Association. During this event, we were proud that the Honourable Laura Albanese, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration recognized that our alumni have a positive impact on the Ontario labour market as well as communities far and wide. The OIEPB Alumni Association's mission is to further stimulate mentorship and develop professional networks across the province of Ontario and Canada. They hope to be able to help IEPTs as it wasn't so long ago that they were in their shoes.

As 2017 comes to close, we look forward to an exciting 2018! We'd like to wish all of you a happy holiday and a joyous New Year!

Cheers from the OIEPB Team!

Class of 2018 update:

The learners have just completed their last onsite clinical practice sessions for 2017. They explored different integrated health systems including burn and amputation rehabilitation. Many patient volunteers and our clinical partners participated in these clinical labs providing an enriched learning environment and real life settings for our learners. They are  excited and ready to start their 2nd internship in January.
