The Department of Physical Therapy, University of Toronto invites you to take part in Physical Therapy Refresher and Exam Preparation Courses. Whether you are a practicing physical therapist hoping to refresh your skills and knowledge or an internationally educated physical therapist preparing to challenge the written or practical components of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE), these online, onsite, and hybrid courses may be of interest to you. Refresher Courses: Online and On-site

Are you looking for opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills or further your career opportunities in cardiorespiratory physical therapy (PT) practice?
 
The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto is offering a comprehensive, accessible refresher course for those physical therapists interested in entering or returning to the cardiorespiratory practice setting: Cardiorespiratory Physical Therapy Refresher
 
 
Course Overview
Cardiorespiratory Physical Therapy Refresher   
 
January 11 –
February 21, 2016
 
                      
·         5 weeks online learning with interactive discussion
·         2 hands-on on-site weekend workshops
 
      Application Deadline: Monday, January 4, 2016
      
 
 
Fee for course: $1000.
The course will assist participants in selecting appropriate assessment and treatment techniques; interpreting diagnostic tools such as lab results and chest X-rays; appropriate practice of oxygen titration and suctioning; treatment and discharge planning; and management of acute and chronic respiratory conditions. Extensive use of computerized simulation mannequins will be included in the on-site components to provide a realistic, low-risk environment in which to learn and practice these high-stakes skills.
 
If you are a currently registered PT who has experience beyond degree requirements or an internationally educated physical therapist preparing for the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE) and wish to become a more competitive applicant for employment in Cardiorespiratory practice, this may be the course for you. This hybrid online-onsite format permits flexibility in the timing of your online participation. Two weekend workshops concentrate practice and integration of practical skills. Practice on computerized simulation mannequins helps you gain confidence in your skills and reasoning.

Exam Skills Preparation (ESP) Workshops

  • Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) Exam Skills Preparation Workshop Prepare and practice for the written component of the PCE. The next workshop designed to help you study for and be more confident in the multiple choice test will be on Saturday, January 9, 2016- Full Day. Full details.
 
  • Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Exam Skills Preparation Workshop

    These are skill development workshops for participants who are preparing for and want practice performing an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). These skills are valuable for those who have passed the Written Component of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE) and are preparing for the Clinical Component.

    OSCE A: Preparation and Practice

    This workshop assists participants in identifying a study plan, study strategies, and knowledge or skills that are required for successful completion of an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) such as the Clinical Component of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam.
     

    OSCE B: Practice Exam

    This half-day OSCE workshop provides the opportunity to cycle through multiple formal OSCE stations, both written and practical, with standardized patients and skilled clinicians as examiners. This workshop will build on the skills learned in OSCE A: Preparation and Practice, but can be taken without completing OSCE Part A.

    Next OSCE A and OSCE B workshops will be in April 2016.
 

PT and the Canadian Health Care System

Online course to fill Alliance gap of Context of Physiotherapy Practice in Canada
The goal of this 6-week online course is to provide internationally educated physiotherapists with an understanding of the Canadian health care system, culture and context for practice. Learners are exposed to a diverse range of topics including; cultural competence, the role of the federal and provincial governments, acts and regulations guiding PT practice and client-centered care in a variety of PT roles and settings.

  • online resources and online Discussion Board allows participants to learn and integrate knowledge, share ideas with and ask questions of peers and the course instructor
  • next course runs January 21, 2016 – March 3, 2016. Application Deadline: January 7, 2016.

Comprehensive OIEPB Bridging Program

We are NOW accepting applications for our Comprehensive Bridging Program  
If you are an internationally educated physical therapist interested in joining the OIEPB program for our 10-month Comprehensive Bridging Program starting in April 2016 you should apply now.

It is important to note that in order to be admitted into the OIEPB Program you must first be assessed. The OIEPB Program will be holding Admission Assessments on February 26, 2016 & February 27, 2016 only.  If you would like to be a part of the OIEPB program next year you MUST attend one of these Assessment dates. 

Space is limited so early registration is encouraged.  You can learn more about our application process on our website.
