SS 2.0: Star Training

When: Sunday
What: Training from One Community AZ on why
being a church that welcomes the LGBT
           community matters
Who: Adults, middle school & high school students
Run Time: 2 hours
          There will be substantial snacks!

This training is a deeply moving reminder of why being an LGBT welcoming church matters. Adjust your schedule so you can stay. We'll start at 11:20, and friends are most welcome to come, as well. Although Rev. Abby will be present this Sunday, we're also happy to welcome faith director David Chavez to preach during worship.

Welcome, Ian!

On Sunday, March 5, Ian Lantka will be dedicated during worship. We're happy to welcome Rabbi Jack Silver for a Jewish Naming Ceremony during the same time.

After worship, we'll have a salad lunch and baby shower, too. Several folks have already volunteered food, but you're invited to sign up for what's still open, or to bring something complementary to what's already listed.

Ash Wednesday

The season of Lent begins on Wednesday, March 1st. We'll have a brief (about 30 minutes) Ash Wednesday service that day at 7 p.m. We'll be in the front courtyard if weather permits, and inside if it does not.

Observing Lent

Because our monthly SS 2.0 study has an at-home component, we won't be observing Lent with a calendar or devotional as in previous years. There will be prayer stations set up in the front courtyard each Sunday during Lent. Also, if you weren't at the SS 2.0 study but would like to participate, you can download the take home materials for the Parable of the Sower. You may find the "Need a Bible?" handout helpful as well.

If you'd like a way to observe Lent in your private devotions, here are some recommendations:

Week of Compassion Offering

We'll receive the Week of Compassion offering Sunday. WOC is our denominational development and disaster response agency. If you'd like to know more about their work, visit their website

Regional Youth Retreat

Regional youth retreats are approaching! Retreats run from Saturday morning to Sunday morning. Many kids and adults who attend and counsel summer camp also head to retreat. If you're considering camp, you should go! If you're planning on going to the March retreat, let the office know by noon tomorrow.

Chi Rho & CYF retreats (grades 6-12) are March 4th & 5th in Tucson.

CCF Retreat (grades 1-5) is April 1st & 2nd in Mesa.

Note: Retreats are open to younger CCF kids, but our youngest campers have just finished 3rd grade. Offering a chance for one night away instead of a week away is a great introduction for our 1st and 2nd grade kids.
