The eSojourner

Chalice Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Lent 2016

"Where you go I will go; where you stay I will stay." Those words were spoken by Ruth to her mother-in-law Naomi. I memorized the longer, King James version as a child, "Whither thou goest I will go, whither thou lodgest I will lodge. Thy people shall be my people and thy God shall be my God."  Ruth said all of those to Naomi after her husband died, choosing to remain with her mother-in-law and be a stranger in a strange land. This text and her story are the focus of the Week of Compassion offering this year.

Most congregations receive the Week of Compassion offering on two Sundays each year, as they do every other special offering. As we did last year, we'll draw out our study for the season of Lent, with congregational focus on Week of Compassion's work in human development and aid throughout the world. We'll hear stories of refugees and building projects, immigrants and people who choose to walk alongside them. You can download your calendar now or pick up a printed copy on Sunday, along with coin box.

You're also invited to participate in our photo-a-day challenge on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. You can pick up a copy of that challenge on Sunday, too, or download one that can be shared via all those social media platforms.

Last, stay tuned for how we'll worship on Ash Wednesday. Ashes to Go location suggestions are still welcome, especially if you know someone likely to say yes. We get lots of nos on this one!

peace--Rev. Abby
We host IHELP this Saturday. If you're helping to provide food, please have it at the church by 5:30 p.m. If you have questions, please contact Kathy Corner.

We'll be collecting spare change for the Pastor's Fund this Sunday, look for the gray buckets!
