Roy Blount Jr., Chef Kevin Gillespie, and Homemade Pie for Everyone
The famous American humorist--and Decatur native--appears in conversation with Chef Gillespie at Decatur High School
Roy Blount Jr. is one of America’s most cherished comic writers. He’s been compared to Mark Twain and James Thurber, and his books have been called everything from “a work of art” (Robert W. Creamer, The New York Times Book Review) to “a book to read till it falls apart” (Newsweek). Now, in Save Room for Pie: Food Songs and Chewy Ruminations, Blount applies his much-praised wit and charm to a rich and fundamental topic: food. In poems and songs, limericks and fake (or sometimes true) news stories, Blount talks about food in surprising and innovative ways, with all the wit and verve that prompted Garrison Keillor, in The Paris Review, to say: “Blount is the best. He can be literate, uncouth, and soulful all in one sentence.”
On Monday, March 21, at 7PM, Blount speaks in conversation with Chef Kevin Gillespie and signs copies of his book at his alma mater, Decatur High School, in the performing arts center. A sampling of homemade pies from Chef Gillespie's Decatur restaurant, Revival, will be provided.
Decatur High School is located at 310 N McDonough St, Decatur, GA 30030.
This is a ticketed event. Individual tickets, $28, admit one and include one book. "Plus one" tickets, $38, admit two and include one book. Tickets may be purchased at A Cappella Books in Inman Park or at acappellabooks.com. If they remain, tickets will also be on sale at Decatur High School the night of the event.
"Roy Blount Jr. is so funny, and he sounds like he's just talking, and the next thing you know he has tossed off an essay as elegant and intricately structured as a birdsong. His ear for American speech is better than anybody's.
