Dinos Under Glass
to Open at The Domes, Saturday

MILWAUKEE – Beginning Saturday, families can step back in time—way back—when they enter Dinos Under Glass, a prehistoric exhibit in the Tropical and Desert domes of the Mitchell Park Domes, 524 S. Layton Blvd.

Nestled among the plants will be seven dinosaur models, ranging in length from 9 to 16 feet, and as tall as 13 feet. Alosaurus, Dromaeosaurus, a “baby” Minmi, a flying Pteranodon, Protoceratops, Stegosaurus, and Triceratops will be easily viewed from the walking paths. Educational, interpretive signage will be located throughout the exhibit. The models were purchased by Friends of The Domes.

"We looked at the juxtaposition—on Mother's Day weekend—of the dinosaur exhibit and the pastel-tinted Shakespeare in Love display in the Show Dome and thought 'what a hoot,'" said Sandy Folaron, Director of The Domes. "Then we considered how many kids we've seen playing with their little plastic dinosaurs when they visit us, and we thought up a twist on an old expression—'When the kids are happy, mama's happy, and when mama's happy, everybody's happy.'"

Mother's Day is one of the most highly attended days of the year. For years, The Domes has been the go-to place for casual family photos. This year, families with have a choice for their backdrop. Do they choose the the more traditional display of the Show Dome or do Mom, Grandma and the kids end up in a time-traveling mash-up? Or do they choose both?

Weekend hours are 9 a.m.–4 p.m. and Monday-Friday, The Domes are open until 5 p.m. Dinos Under Glass is on view through Oct. 21; Shakespeare in Love, through May 28

Admission fees range from $5 to $8. When presenting IDs for proof of status, Milwaukee County residents, students of all ages, and people with disabilities receive discounted admission. Children age 5 and under are admitted free. For more information, call the Mitchell Park Domes at (414) 257-5611 or visit
