Prayer and More
Happy up-and-coming June to you all.  The picture above was taken from the window of the small chapel at Wydale during our little offering for  in the national prayer initiative 'Thy Kingdom Come' with 24 hours of prayer at Wydale just before Pentecost. We had some people who came especially for the event and some who were staying with us anyway but who really benefited from being able to spend time on the prayer activity in the chapel and the prayer walk in the gardens.

We have a separate email list of people who have committed to pray for Wydale and our ministry.  These are people who receive some regular updates and some specific and irregular requests for prayer, depending on what is happening!  We would like to add to the number of people who are on this list.  If this is something you think you would like to be involved with do please get in touch.

Up and Coming
Do come to our Open Afternoon on Sunday 19th June if you can.  There will be cake!  It's an opportunity for Wydale friends and family to get together, to see how we are doing, to take a look at changes we have made around the hall and to enjoy the gardens in their high-summer glory.  It's also a great opportunity to bring someone who hasn't been to Wydale before.   There will be a little trip through the history of Wydale for anyone who is interested by the General Manager (whose birthday it happens to be!)  As it's Father's Day it's an ideal way to treat your Dad to an afternoon out and a slice of divine cake!

Day Conference: "The Church's Response to Society's Need"
Thursday 2 June 9.45am to 4.00pm.

There is still JUST time to sign up for this extra event to those advertised in our annual programme.  The Dean of York, the Very Rev'd Vivian Faull, will be sharing some of her experience and discussing some of the social, political and economic issues which face the Church today.  We are very fortunate to have Viv with us for the day - do come along if you can.  £25.00 which includes refreshments and lunch.  Contact the office to book or go to the events pages of

Day Conference: "How Messy is Your Church?"
Saturday 25 June 9.45am to 4.00pm. Another event which is not on our programme. Messy church is a form of church for children and adults that involves creativity, celebration and hospitality. £25.00 including lunch and refreshments.    The day will be led by one of the Messy Church experts, Jane Leadbetter and is for anyone who is already involved and wants further inspiration or for people who think they might like to have a go! Again, details from the office or website.

Bundles of Joy
We have had some wonderful response to our involvement with the Bundles of Joy charity in York.  For more details of the work of the charity please see our website here.  Several people have come to the  hall with gifts for us to pass on of baby clothes and accessories.  Only this week we heard the story of a young mother who found herself in an emergency situation and whom the folk at Bundle were able to help through the generosity of gifts which had been received.  If you feel able to make any contributions we are always happy to receive them here and will make sure they get to the charity.  The Wydale Blanket which is made up of squares knitted by guests over the last year has been auctioned and raised a good sum of money for the charity - again thanks to all those who put in a bid.  Another blanket is well on the way now so don't despair if you lost out this time!

Summer Rates
We really want to make Wydale as accessible as possible to people all year round and to that end we are offering some special summer mid-week rates.  In June, July and August we can offer bed and breakfast for £25 per person per night, bed, breakfast and dinner for £35 per person per night and full board for £48 per person per night.  In addition to these Monday to Friday rates we have TWO WEEKENDS also on special offer: 24-26 June and 2-4 September. Come along for a private retreat, a rest, with a group from church or a smaller group. We would love to welcome you into our community.

It is a very real privilege to work and live as part of the community here at Wydale.  Sometimes the challenges seem overwhelming, but there is so often an encouraging word or note from guests who have been staying with us and we thought it would be good to share some of these with you:

"We have had a wonderful weekend.  Lovely surroundings, comfortable beds and plenty of cups of tea"
"A wonderful Spiritual place to commune with nature and the Lord"
"Many thanks to all the team for running an excellent and well-organised centre"
"Getting better all the time - thank you"
"Don't change a thing - it's perfect!"
"What a peaceful, prayerful place Wydale is.  Thank you."

But the final word has to go to this one....
"I LOVE the Wydale porridge"

We hope that we get to meet many of you at Wydale over the coming months;  that you enjoy the presence of God here - and that you get to try the porridge.

With all good wishes

Mark, Diana, Helen and all the team at Wydale.
