Spring greetings from the Community at Wydale
Spring is well and truly springing here at Wydale and it seemed like the right time to send you some of our news.

We had a wonderful Christmas here with over 30 guests staying with us for the festivities.  We read Christmas poems, went to local churches together, ate too much, watched the Queen, had a Boxing Day walk and generally enjoyed being Christmas community together.  We will be doing it all again at Christmas this year - do contact us if you want to book in early and guarantee a place.

The Wydale grounds are bearing many plants and flowers at the moment and to this end we will be having a plant sale on 3 June. Full details here.  Come along and grab yourself a bit of Wydale and a cuppa at the same time.

Easter
We are looking forward to welcoming guests to Wydale for Easter.  We will be having an Easter houseparty for folk to stay with us from Thursday 13 April to Monday 17th April.  Details here if you would like to join us

We are also going to be having special events in Holy Week.  There will be a prayer walk around the grounds of Wydale every day from 11-15 April from 10am which we are calling 'In the Shadow of the Cross'.  The walk will be interactive and will take you to parts of the grounds you have probably never been to before.  We hope the walk will give you time and space to prepare for Easter and there will be folk around to pray with you should you want this. It's all free and there will be refreshments available in the Hall.  Full details here.  You are also welcome to join us on Good Friday for a short service followed by lunch - after which we will have a 'dressing of the cross' event exploring Easter themes.

Family Fun on Easter Saturday.  On Saturday 15th April we will throw open the doors of the hall, have an Easter egg hunt, some Easter crafts and some delicious refreshments.  Do come and join us if you are able to. Enjoy the grounds, try out the prayer walk, spend a bit of time in the Bothy and generally prepare for Easter. Do come along and bring your family and friends.  From 10am.

2017 Programme
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.  Isaiah 54

Our 2017 programme of Wydale events has started.  Here at Wydale one of our aims is to run events which help enable churches and individuals to  be more effective in renewing the Church's mission and ministry.  Most of them involve words of some sort!    We hope that when you attend one of our events (whatever its theme and structure) you will feel that you come away better equipped to do what God is calling you to do in your locality and your ministry.  We have been delighted since Christmas to have hosted some events which have really helped people to delve into God's word.  We enjoyed great days of teaching on the Gospel of Luke and Matthew and our Lent days led by different local clergy on Wednesdays have been appreciated by those who have come along. We've had people who have been Christians for many many years saying how these events have shown them something new of God and how they are encouraged to keep on keeping on.

There are still opportunities to join us for our last couple of Lent days.  On 5 April Rev'd Liz Kitching will be leading us and on 12 April Rev'd Richard Carew (Chaplain to the Archbishop of York) will be with us. Both will be great days of preparation for Easter.  Please phone us on 01723 859270 or email admin@wydale.org to book in (we end with lunch).

There are so many ways nowadays of enabling God's word to get out there.  We are particularly excited about one of our up and coming events which looks at Social Media.  We've called it 'Social Media for the Terrified' (but you don't have to be terrified of it or a total novice to benefit from this).  It's being held on the evening of Wednesday 24 May and is with Mark Russell who is Chief Executive of the Church Army and Christian Tweeter of the Year this year.  Mark is a brilliant speaker and we are so delighted that he is coming.  It's going to be a great evening.  Information and Booking forms here or contact us on 01723 859270 to book.

Looking towards the next stage of life?  Mel Griggs and Andrew de Smet are leading a day conference on Saturday 22 April aimed at those who are looking towards retirement.  A practical look at how to manage your time, money and priorities at this exciting time of life.  Booking form and details here

Gloria (Saturday 6 May) will give you a great opportunity to sing Vivaldi's 'Gloria' under the skillful direction of Rachel Gray who is a professional musician and very experienced choirmaster.  You don't have to be a proficient singer - just be keen to have a go.  This will be a full day event ending with a performance to family and friends in the late afternoon.  Full details here.

We have the privilege of having Professor Tom McLeish speaking to us on Faith and Wisdom on 17 June.  Tom is professor of Physics at Durham University and a Lay Preacher in the Church of England.  He will be exploring the whole topic of faith and wisdom - are God and science mutually exclusive? Does the evidence of evolution render a Creator redundant? etc. It will be an excellent day and a great way to equip yourself for those conversations which always crop up.....  full information and booking details here.

The Wydale Community
We are gradually growing the group of people who consider themselves to be part of the Wydale Community. Some live here, some come as regular guests to the hall, some are our prayer warriors, some are amazing volunteers who come regularly to work with us.  We would love to welcome more people into our growing community.  There will be more information about what this means over the coming months but in the meantime a couple of things to get you thinking:

Volunteering at Wydale:  our annual Retreat and Repair week has become so popular that it is already fully booked this summer.  BUT we always welcome people who are able to come and volunteer with us for a day or a few days at a time.  We love people who can clean, paint, mend things and generally get stuck in with us.  If this interests you, please do contact us.

Building a Community of Prayer: we want to gather those who really feel like the Lord is calling them to pray for Wydale.  We want to thank you for what you are doing already and to envision you for the future. To this end there will be a day on Saturday 11th November 10am to 3.30pm at Wydale.  If you think this might be you, please do get in touch for more details.  We want to widen our prayer community.

We are so grateful to the many many people who support us in different ways as we seek to do what we believe God is calling us to do at Wydale.  Each Friday night at Wydale we pray at 9pm and we always reflect on Psalm 139. 'You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways......you hem me in behind and before and you lay your hand upon me'.  We don't do MUCH lying down here - but we do sense God's hand on us as we follow him and we are so grateful for those of you who are with us on this journey.

As ever, come and see us any time.  A warm welcome (and,at the moment,  gin and tonic cake) await you.

With all good wishes.

Mark, Diana, Helen and all the team at Wydale.

PS remember if you enjoy Social Media we have very regular updates on Facebook (/WydaleHall) and Twitter. (@wydalehall) - do join us there!
