Dear colleague,

During the
European Mental Health Week we feel responsible to speak up about the huge potential of the arts and (mental) health interventions.

To promote and nurture the collaboration between CCIs and health sectors, we are partners at the #CultureForHealth:
a new, large-scale European project funded by the European Commission until 2023. During the project's recent round table discussion Monica Urian, Policy Officer from the European Commission, Directorate General Education and Culture, pointed out:

“The most recent collective traumas - the covid 19 crisis and the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine - show the role arts and culture can play in alleviating human suffering, in creating and maintaining communities, in giving a more humane face to the healthcare system. It is our responsibility as Europeans, as culture and health professionals, as human beings, to do everything we can to help our societies heal. This is the reason why the European Commission and the European Parliament are supporting the project #CultureForHealth.”

More About #CultureForHealth and the Study Visit to Aarhus

In light of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the recent refugee flux - consisting mostly of young individuals - the particular issue of mental health needs of refugees and forcibly displaced people is crucial and timely. In an effort to shed light upon the aforementioned issue, the CultureForHealth project is also in the process of developing a paper, mapping evidence of the ways arts and culture can support the mental health and well-being of forcibly displaced people (to be released soon). Stay tuned!

Mental Health Of Refugees And The #CultureForHealth Project

#CultureForHealth project also aims to carry out a major mapping study that will provide information about practices, lessons learned and good policies that are carried out in the field of culture, well-being and health in the EU.
We encourage professionals from the cultural and health fields to include their relevant initiatives/ projects/ programmes/ or policies in the ambitious mapping study. Join in and inspire the future of arts and culture for health and well-being!
