Daniel 7:2-14; Luke 21:29-33

... in the same way, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near.

Our daily lives are bombarded with billboards, commercials, pop-up ads and robocalls. The Lord vies for our attention, too. We need to look close and listen to hear the voice of God. Is God calling us through that announcement at church or that blurb in the bulletin requesting volunteers? Through the person in need next to us in the pew or across the street? Maybe a tragedy or a crisis reported on the news sticks with us in a profound way. Is God’s call in the pope’s challenge, a child’s cry, a newspaper headline? God speaks to us in gentle, simple, random ways. Just as we notice nature signaling the change of seasons -- first subtly, then obviously -- we should be keenly attuned to the sure signs of God nudging us and challenging us to become signs of the kingdom.

Plant seeds of compassion within me, Lord.
