After this time, the floats will still be winding their way to the end of the parade route at Diversey & Sheridan. This year there will not be a Buffer Zone on Halsted Street after the parade ends. Police will work to re-open the streets to vehicular traffic as soon as cleaning crews are finished.

2016 improvements include:
  • A security team of 160 (up from 90 last year) off-duty security and police officers supplied by the parade organizers will be in place to supplement the Chicago Police Department's presence along and surrounding the parade route before, during, and after the parade. Additionally, the Chicago Police Department has indicated additional resources will be deployed to the areas in and around the parade route.
  • A zero-tolerance policy for alcohol along the parade route. It will be strictly enforced in accordance with a City of Chicago ordinance which includes fines up to $1,000 for open containers along parade routes.
  • Checkpoints will be in place along the parade route to closely monitor open container laws.
  • Strict enforcement of bar occupancy rules and over-consumption by patrons.
  • Parade entries have been limited in size to reduce the length of the parade.
  • Most 4:00am bars in Lakeview have voluntarily agreed to close at 2:00am to help end the night earlier.
  • Increased resources for cleanup after the parade.

Let's all work together to ensure that the Pride Parade is a positive reflection of the LGBT community, our neighborhood and the City of Chicago.
