Spirit Night
Skip the kitchen and come out TONIGHT, Tuesday Sept. 4th, for dinner at Marco's Pizza (Chapel Hill Road).  Come for lunch or dinner (dine in or grab a pizza to go!), and a portion of sales will be donated to the school.  The class with the most participation will win a popsicle party--the perfect way to end the summer!

Camp Chameleon
Looking for a way to get involved with our school community? Please join us in making Camp Chameleon a better place for our students.  We've scheduled two planning days to discuss potential enhancements for the coming months. We'll share what the teachers have asked for and we'd love to have you join us to share your ideas. Sunday Sept. 9th or Monday September 10th, both at 6:30-7:30 pm, at our Camp Chameleon space (outside, behind the school).  Camp Chameleon is our outdoor learning space that no other school in the county has. The PTA is proud to offer this space to our school, and it is maintained by volunteer effort. We also have a maintenance day coming up Sunday September 16th, 3-5pm. Bring gloves and a rake if you have one.  Questions? Email Mark at president@carpenterpta.net.

If you haven't renewed your PTA membership for this year, now is the time!  Our PTA is here to support students, parents and teachers. We coordinate events and activities, offer special programs and provide teacher grants.  Our ever-popular Membership Drive Class Contest is back!  The class with the highest percentage of PTA members will win an animal encounter in-class field trip from the Durham Museum of Life + Science!  As of this week, Ms. Waltzer's class is in the lead with 60% participation, and Ms. Harris, Ms. Freeman and Ms. Frye's classes are all close behind. And don't forget about the Ride a Firetruck to School raffle!  All families that join are entered to win (and you can earn multiple raffle tickets with higher levels of membership). Follow the link below to join online, or print the paper form and send in to your teacher.

School Assignment
You may have received a message from the Wake County Public School System indicating you may be affected by a student assignment change for the 2019-20 school year.  The WCPSS board has released the first of their 3 drafts before the final decision in November.  The school system will be opening 3 new schools that may affect members of our community: Parkside Elementary School, Alston Ridge Middle School, and Green Level High School.  With the introduction of these schools next year, the school board is making changes to the student assignment.  Visit https://www.wcpss.net/enrollmentproposal to learn more about the changes.  Here you can also see the in depth analysis in the "Board Presentations" link at the left of the page, under Draft 1 of the 2019-20 Student Enrollment Proposal. The PTA is learning about what this means to our school community, so look for more information in the coming weeks.
Mark your calendars!  Our annual PTA Fall Family Fun Night will be:

Friday October 5th, 5:00 - 7:30

This year's event will have a science theme with lots of fun activities and games. We're also bringing in a game truck, inflatables, yard games and a virtual reality booth.  You won't want to miss it!

Concessions will be available for purchase from Marco's Pizza and Potbelly Sandwich Shop.

We're still in the planning stages, and would love your help! If you've got some ideas about science-related activities and games, we'd love to hear from you. Please email Tammy at tammypetschke75@gmail.com.

THANK YOU!

Many of the things we do at Carpenter would not be possible
without our amazing parent volunteers.
Many thanks to Angela Ramos for helping slice cucumbers for 600+ students last week for Tasty Tuesday!  Thanks also to Jenny Martin, Megha Jain-Tailor, Rupa Patel, Jannifer Burge, Cathy Hallam and Reni Holloway for helping pass out samples.  It was awesome to have so many volunteers with us! The next Tasty Tuesday will be Nov. 6th. If you're interested in helping out, please email Tammy at tammypetschke75@gmail.com.
Our greatest appreciation goes out to Sean D'Angelone and Bonefish Grill at Southpoint for hosting our most recent early release teacher luncheon. The PTA would not be able to spoil our deserving teachers without the support of local businesses in the community!
The Carpenter Elementary School PTA is a non-profit organization committed to being an advocate for the education and well being of our students.
