Anubhava Science Foundation is happy to announce a "Teacher Enrichment workshop" for private school teachers. For more details visit our website.
A first-of-its-kind professional development program that empowers teachers with focus on experience, enquiry and enjoyment of the teaching–learning process of science.
January month update
Day - 1
After hand- holding for two thirds of the course on teacher enrichment, the teachers were ready to take over. Addressing the class of fellow teachers was Sudhamani, Radha and Swarnalatha, one after the other.
Sudha began a bit hesitantly but soon, got involved with the discussion on air pollution. The whole class joined in listing the sources of pollution, the pollutants and the effects of pollution on our environment and human health. Using a mind map, she took the class in logical flow of thought. Geetha Arvind often gave tips on the design of mind map, on allowing discussions to take off from every question raised, and so on.
Finally when Swarnalatha began to draw the mind map for soil pollution, it was clear that some enrichment had taken place. It was an inclusive discussion from then on. When Radha took over with water pollution it was evident that confidence had built. A casual mode of conversation engaged the class in the topic.
From a monologue dictated by the text book to a dialogue exploring the concept, the teachers had discovered a meaningful and fun way of teaching.
A brief interlude followed when Kshama took the class on a mathematical insight into symmetry.
The afternoon session saw teachers demonstrate lessons from hands on experiments.
Day - 2
The day started with presentations from teachers- first on the topic of heat and temperature and then on air pressure. Geetha gave an introduction to Heat & temperature, setting the stage with few questions before the teachers took over. The teachers had come fully prepared with experiments, images and videos of experiments they had done at home as well. Discussions, confusions, clarifications followed, as it turned out to be a learning experience to the teachers presenting, as well as to those listening.
Thayimuddamma took up Heat and Temperature and time was her only constraint! Raffat Unnisa's chosen topic was Anomalous expansion of water and she had brought a very simple home-made apparatus along with ice to show how water had the maximum density at 4 degrees centigrade. Sowbhagyamma discussed Air Pressure along with Geetha, who performed experiments to back up the crucial concepts.
The math session covered approximation and estimation through daily life examples as well as problems covered in the class, emphasising on the need to inculcate among children, the habit of estimating any answer before jumping into solving it, so that absurd answers can be immediately detected.
The afternoon session saw teachers taking part in the hands-on laboratory session for chemical reactions. Stations of different kinds of reactions were set up with the chemicals and apparatus required to perform them. At first, the teachers were hesitant to do the experiments on their own, but after guidance from Bhama, they gained confidence and performed the experiments individually with enthusiasm and interest.
The day ended with a quiz covering three topics. The questions were set by the teachers themselves as part of their term exam.
As per teachers’ suggestions, February will have 2 days of sessions, as it would be difficult for them to make time in March, considering end of the semester and examinations.

Anubhava workshops as part of Vikasana & Sinchana
Vikasana and Sinchana are 5- day long science and math training programs organised by the Department of Education for in-service teachers. ASF faculties were invited by the Block Education Officer of Bangalore South- 2 block, to conduct workshops during this program. Also, participants of the "Teachers enrichment programme" have taken sessions for their fellow teachers during this 5 days program in North 1 block based on their learnings from this course.
Teacher Enrichment Programme
Teacher Enrichment programme is a one year course launched by ASF in collaboration with KSCST for in-service middle school government and aided science teachers to enrich teaching-learning of science, focusing on the subject matter in depth, pedagogy of science teaching, creation of science curricular resources and science of life.
Anubhava Science Foundation (ASF) is a charitable trust registered in 2008. ASF envisions to enrich Science and Mathematics education in Karnataka schools. ASF has been granted 80(G)(vi)(Act 1961) enabling donors to claim income tax benefits.
