Israel Desks Newsletter

January 2017
Welcome to the first edition of the Israel Desks newsletter for 2017, which examines the Israeli high-tech sector.

We analyzed recent data (included below), which underlines that a growing number of deals in the sector comprise both an Israeli buyer and seller, reflecting a renewed self-confidence by many high-tech companies.

Looking forward to 2017, we are also happy to bring you the latest market insights from thought leaders in Doing Business in Israel 2017, and we relaunch the Israel Desks Directory. Both platforms are designed to help you to reach your target audience in Israel and be on top of market trends.

High-Tech Trends - 2017 Prediction

While 2016 did see fewer exits in Israel's renowned high-tech sector there are still strong signs for optimism in 2017.

There may have been fewer IPOs and exits (down 67% to $3.5 billion*), especially on NASDAQ, which has changed policies and is seeking more mature companies. Nevertheless, 2016 was a strong year for Israeli technology companies in raising capital. Furthermore, Israeli high-tech companies closed 104 deals in 2016 worth $10 billion, up 12%, and included 93 M&A deals worth nearly $8.8 billion including the $4.4 billion Playtika acquisition by a Chinese consortium**.

U.S. investors are expected to demonstrate their continued interest in Israeli technology. Meanwhile, China's investment in Israeli companies still shows no sign of slowing down and continues to be climbing through private funds as more and more business delegations continue to visit Israel.

As such, in 2017, we can expect to see strategic cross-border M&A transactions, led by the U.S. and China, with the UK still considered an excellent market for Israeli technology.
